This will be one of my last posts of the year, and it's a bit of an unthemed mix of cards for various collections. There are a couple HI contributions to this mail post, which always makes things better!

Mail Post #22 for 2013

-------------------------------------------------------

10-11 ITG Ultimate Memorabilia 10th Edition Pad Silver Tim Thomas (18/24)
It has been a while since I've seen one of these for sale! When this product was new, I thought the prices for these picture-less cards were a little out of line with what I wanted to pay. Several years later, this one came in for the right figure.

The pad piece on this card is black, yellow, and white. There are a lot of stitching holes and puck marks. The set is now complete, as I already own the Gold (1/1) version.

10-11 Famous Fabrics Ink Hockey Edition Hockey Ink Tim Thomas (1/1)
Here's another boring 1/1 from the awful Famous Fabrics Ink product! I know, I know -- why am I buying these? The answer is that they're inexpensive, and that although it's a stretch, I do count them (as 1/1s) for my player collections.

Tim Thomas had two cards in the set. This version is from the "Hockey Ink" subset. I already own the Vezina Winner version, which means that I own every Tim Thomas card released in the product.

11-12 The Cup Trios Jersey Tim Thomas / David Krejci / Zdeno Chara (13/25)
I received this card in the mail from Brett (bamlinden), who purchased it at a local show. When he first sent me a message, I was halfway through typing out a response that I already owned the 11-12 Cup triple jersey with Thomas and Chara. Then, I took a closer look, and realized that I owned the Thomas/Rask/Chara version! I'm still two years behind on my Tim Thomas checklist, so I hadn't even realized he was on two cards in the set. Comparing the pictures, it's just one player swapped out -- which, frankly, is kind of redundant on UD's part. They didn't even bother to change the Thomas and Chara pictures. The one nice part? Both cards are #13/25.

I like the three jersey colors on this card -- black for Thomas, yellow for Krejci, and white for Chara.

Thanks very much for your help, Brett!

11-12 Score Supreme Team Tim Thomas (2012 All-Star Game Promo) (2/5)
Here's a rare Thomas show card -- nothing I'm tracking for my collection, but something I'll be happy to pick up for a few dollars. The All-Star Game stamp is on the front, and the foil serial numbering is on the back.

05-06 Hot Prospects Milan Jurcina RC (200/349) (Damaged)
Every now and then, I run into an issue with the receipt of a damaged card. I usually try to rectify the issue quickly, by purchasing another copy of the card for my collection. Sometimes, however, this process isn't as quick as I'd like it to be. That's the case with this Milan Jurcina item, which I won on ebay on August 21, 2011.

The card had been sealed far too tightly in a screw-down holder, and upon opening it up, numerous spots of the card surface finish were removed. I put the card aside, determined to find another one for my collection that was in better shape. I did like the swatch on this card, with brown and black from one of the Bruins bear patches.

Over the next two years, I didn't see very many copies of this card available for sale. Some of them were also damaged, and others had one-color swatches or autographs that bled significantly outside of the sticker. On the rare occasion that I'd find one that I thought would fit in my collection, the price became prohibitive.

Finally, 28 months later, I can put the Jurcina issue to rest.

05-06 Hot Prospects Milan Jurcina RC (062/349)
This card is in great shape -- sharp corners, a fully-contained signature, and no surface damage!

The patch swatch is also pretty nice. I count four layers -- yellow, black, white, and a tiny bit of black just at the far right edge of the frame.

My Milan Jurcina RC collection isn't quite done, but the hardest cards are now out of the way.

02-03 ITG Used Curtis Sanford RC (97/100)
I still have a long way to go for Curtis Sanford, but this is one of his toughest RC issues. Sanford won 10 games for the Blue Jackets in 2011-12.

-------------------------------------------------------

00-01 Titanium Hobby Daniel Sedin (56/99)
Progress continues on my 00-01 Titanium set! This is my first of the two Sedin cards from the set. In today's hobby, it would seem like a major oversight to populate a rookie subset with a player who earned his RC four years prior. That was pretty common in Pacific sets from around this time frame, and the Sedin twins were hardly the most notable. David Vyborny has #/99 and #/199 cards in this set, and he earned his rookie cards in 1992-93!

I'm up to 28/50 for the Titanium #/99 short prints.

97-98 Upper Deck Diamond Vision Header Card
The next five pictures contain cards I received from Justin (M35Richter). The first card is what appears to be some sort of header or promotional card from the 97-98 Upper Deck Diamond Vision set. I may be one of the only people who liked that product, and actually opened it when it was new. However, although I recall that pack prices were originally supposed to be $15 each, I was getting them for about $4 each instead.

I've never seen this item before, and neither Justin or I have any clue where it came from. Unlike cards from the actual Diamond Vision set, this card is extremely thin -- about as thin as a normal base card. It can be bent easily. The card back is plasticy white, and completely blank.

95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Brett Hull
95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Cam Neely

-------------------------------------------------------
152.jpg

95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Jason Arnott
95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Sergei Fedorov

-------------------------------------------------------
153.jpg

95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Jaromir Jagr
95-96 Summit Mad Hatter Joe Nieuwendyk

These six cards are an enormous help toward my Summit Mad Hatters set! I am down to needing just one more item from the 15-card set -- Pavel Bure. Does anyone out there have this set-killer?

-------------------------------------------------------
154.jpg

12-13 Crown Royale Andrew Joudrey RC (51/99)
The last card from Justin is a nice Blue Jackets rookie card, featuring an overage forward prospect who may or may not ever make it back to the NHL. The jersey swatch on this card is off-white and dark blue, with a big seam between the two colors. It was taken from the Blue Jackets third jersey.

Aside from the 12-13 Panini Limited redemption card, which Panini hasn't provided any updates about, I now own all of Joudrey's RCs.

Thanks for the sale, Justin!

12-13 Titanium Andrew Joudrey (03/23)
There's room for one more Joudrey item in this mail post -- a very scarce Titanium base card! It fits alongside the Draft Parallel (/100) in my collection.

-------------------------------------------------------
156.jpg

11-12 Titanium Frederic St. Denis (54/62)
I picked up another Titanium card as well -- with this card coming from the year before. The print run on this one made it fairly easy to find, and also inexpensive. St. Denis is not a priority, as it's unlikely he'll ever play for the Blue Jackets.

-------------------------------------------------------
157.jpg

02-03 Titanium Hobby Stephane Veilleux RC (05/99)
This is an important card for my Stephane Veilleux RC collection -- it's the last "tough" card on my wantlist, and it's arguably his best rookie card as well. My Veilleux stash is currently at 20/25.

-------------------------------------------------------
158.jpg

05-06 Upper Deck Valtteri Filppula RC (SP)
This card, which arrived with the Veilleux above, is my first Filppula rookie! He's been very good with the Lightning so far, and I hope he can keep it up for most (if not all) of his five-year contract.

-------------------------------------------------------
159.jpg

05-06 Upper Deck Rookie Update Valtteri Filppula RC / Tuomo Ruutu (185/499)
My second Filppula rookie card is one of his better RCs (arguably, only The Cup is better).

Filppula and Ruutu were both born in Vantaa, Finland, so this is actually a very good pairing for the dual-autograph Rookie Update concept. This is the only copy of the card I've ever seen in which both signatures are fully contained on the white labels.

-------------------------------------------------------
160.jpg

13-14 Upper Deck UD Canvas Boone Jenner (SP)
13-14 Upper Deck Overtime Richard Panik
Here are a couple items from recent UD sets. I still really like the UD Canvas cards. I'd love to see some sort of holofoil parallel with that kind of card texture -- if such a thing is even possible.

-------------------------------------------------------
161.jpg

13-14 Select Ondrej Palat RC (056/399)
My eleven-card rookie wantlist from Panini Select is beginning to shrink. Here's Ondrej Palat, currently playing on the top line for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

-------------------------------------------------------
162.jpg

13-14 Select Alex Killorn RC (173/399)
Alex Killorn has also been productive for the Lightning, but was at his best when playing on Stamkos' wing.

-------------------------------------------------------
163.jpg

13-14 Select Jonathan Audy-Marchessault RC (023/399)
This may be the final "JAM" card before the "Audy" is dropped from his name. He's having a so-so season in the AHL, but he's still young enough to be considered a good prospect.

-------------------------------------------------------
164.jpg

13-14 Select Boone Jenner RC (065/399)
Boone Jenner made the Blue Jackets out of camp, and is going to be one of the most popular rookies I have to collect in 2013-14. I see that he's been included in the top tier of Panini Dominion.

-------------------------------------------------------
165.jpg

13-14 Select Ryan Murray RC (012/399) (Blue Ink)
13-14 Select Ryan Murray RC (124/399) (Black Ink)
Finally, I'll close out these Select additions with two copies of Ryan Murray's rookie card. Almost all of the sticker autographs in Select are done up in blue ink, but I noticed a few Murray cards coming through with black signatures. It's definitely an interesting variation. To make it even better, the black autographs also include his #27 jersey number.

From what I've seen, I think the black ink variation is more scarce than the blue ink version, but not by a significant margin. Has anybody else seen other Select RCs with different-colored sticker autographs? The simplest explanation is that Panini may have used sticker sheets from two different Ryan Murray signing sessions.

-------------------------------------------------------
166.jpg

13-14 Upper Deck Trilogy Cory Conacher (Level 2) (075/399)
My first Cory Conacher autograph card is the middle tier of his three base-set cards in UD Trilogy. I'm in no hurry to get the #/699 version, but I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to acquire one of the #/49 Level 3 cards.

-------------------------------------------------------
167.jpg

12-13 Crown Royale All The King's Men Patch Alec Martinez (09/10)
I will end the mail post with a scarce card for a player collection! This Martinez card was released in Rookie Anthology. I already have the base jersey version, but I have yet to acquire the Prime #/50 variation.

The swatch on this card isn't outstanding -- it's mostly black jersey, with two disconnected pieces of silver patch stitching. Still, it counts the same for the collection, and I'd already let a few copies of this #/10 card go by.

Through the releases of Black Diamond and Dominion, Martinez hasn't been slated to appear on any products since 2013-14 Score. As he's played over 25 games so far with the Kings, I wonder if that will change?

-----------------

News and notes:

** My end-of-year Top 10 post will be coming up on the 30th or 31st. I may sneak in one small post before then, but I'm not sure yet.

** Tim Thomas has yet to appear on any cards as member of the Panthers. I wonder -- when will he make his actual 2013-14 cardboard debut, not counting all the Bruins holdover cards from the sets at the beginning of the product year?

That'll be it. Thanks everyone!

Great cards as always Andy. Glad I could help you out.

That pad off the top is a stunner.

Thanks for sharing.

I LOVE the Mad Hatters. I just built that set myself. The 95-96 Summit master set is BEAUTIFUL. I have the Bure but it's part of my set unfortunately! You have good taste in putting that set together. There's something about that wavy looking holofoil that sells me.

Thanks!

If I were crazy I'd consider one or two other insert sets from that product, but with this one almost done, my focus is going to shift to the 98-99 Black Diamond insert sets I'm working on. I have no idea why the Mad Hatter printing technology has never been used on a hockey card since then.

Great haul as always. Love the Sanford rookie with him wearing the old Worcester IceCats mask!

Good catch! :)

Your mail posts are always fun to read Andy, you seem to appreciate every thread and stitch of your memorabilia pieces just as much as I do. I could write pages and pages about my cards and the game-used swatches in them if I knew anybody would bother reading them

Keep the mail posts coming
