Verified Trader,
Hello everyone, it's been a while since I did one of these, but I had such a good time at this year's Expo that I thought I'd share my pickups. I went Friday and Sunday and saw a Leafs game in between (And they actually won!). As much as I like my new cards, I think I enjoyed simply talking about hockey and cards with people the most.
And here we go ....
NON-SPORTS PICKUP
Grimlock! I loved the Transformers as a kid, even if the new movies are an affront to humanity.
BASEBALL PICKUPS
It's always nice to add a couple of Jays autos at the Expo. I've been looking for this Stroman for a while and I couldn't pass up this sweet Joey Bats sig.
HOCKEY PICKUPS
I love these Oyo toys and for a very cheap price I was able to get this neat little Jagr oddball.
Leafs! A couple of new Young Guns of Percy and McKegg, a nice Dominion RPA of Panik and a shiny Kessel insert. I really like the Fire On Ice cards. I might do the set.
A couple of sweet cards of underrated players that I'm happy to add to my leading scorers collection.
I've been wanting a nice Tavares auto for a while and this certainly fits the bill. The Signature Rendition and Brilliance cards are truly stunning in person.
BOX BREAKS
I definitely wasn't planning on breaking anything, but I'm glad I did!
Grizzly Sportscards was selling an odd box of 13-14 Contenders with two guaranteed autos for $10. Figured why not, and ended up with a Nyquist auto! Both are available.
A box for $70 and a short redemption line lead me to buy a box of UD1. Nothing breathtaking here, but I'm glad to get the Steen SS. Everything else is available.
Now this is better! After years of breaking UD1 the Shattenkirk is the first HG I've ever pulled! All available.
Wow! Very happy to pull the Ekblad, plus Reinhart isn't too bad either. I think Duclair's an interesting player too. Everything except the Ekblad is available.
Oh, and one more card. Great photography from Upper Deck here!
Not a bad redemption either!
One thing I certainly didn't expect to find at the Expo was a 2004-05 Franchises Super Box from the 2005 National in Chicago. For less than a regular box of Franchises are these days, I got 9 packs of USA East, 9 Packs of USA West, the Update set with an auto and game used card, plus a Show Stamped Autograph!
The Update Set contained an auto of Tom Reid and the Cheevers/Gilbert Pad/Glove. The Gary Croteau auto came from the USA West packs and the Bourque/Potvin came from the USA East packs. It's the Gold version too!
Unfortunately, there was one card that really rained on my Expo parade. What would have been an incredible hit, came badly damaged from the pack:
And it was the Gold /5 version too! Definitely a downer, but ah well. Obviously ITG won't do anything about a 10 year old product, but is there any suggestions about what I can do with this?
Luckily, the show stamped auto saved the day!
Beautiful hard signed card of a legend!
For those who stayed to the end, thanks for looking!
