The excitement around the Toronto Blue Jays has been building more and more over the past couple of seasons thanks to big off-season pickups, a great new look, and some breakout stars that are making Toronto a fun team to watch.
One of those stars is Jose Bautista and I decided to pick up a nice high-end card of his to start off what could be a new side-project of Blue Jays cards.
Being a high-end hockey collector I did a bit of research to see what kind of baseball products had a similar feel to The Cup or Dominion, with thick card stocks, hard-signed autographs and nice designs. I came across 2012 Topps Five Star and the minute I laid eyes on this card I had to have one:
Jose Bautista Auto/Relic 55/97.
This card has everything I wanted in a high-end baseball card. A hard-signed auto, blue jersey piece, thick card stock, and a photo of Jose in the Blue Jays new look jersey. It also helps that he has a nice legible signature which you don't see enough in sports lately.
In my research of Topps Five Star I knew going in that around 90% or more of the cards in this product were plagued by severe edge chipping and luckily I was able to find a copy of this card that has good clean edges.
There are a couple more Bautista cards in Five Star I would like to get my hands on as well as some nice Brett Lawrie ones also. It's pretty tough to find baseball card sellers on eBay who are willing to ship to Canada however, I guess I'll have to adapt to a different kind of market to secure some of these cards.
Anyway thanks for the read and the look, if you have any Five Star Bautista or Lawrie cards available please shoot me a PM
