Upstanding Member,
Well, if I have any "resolutions" this year, one would be to be a little more active on these boards. Don't get me wrong......I visit on a pretty regular basis - I just tend to pop in and back out.
I hope to post more of my findings and share some of the fun stuff I pick up.
So.....let's start with arguably my best one-day haul for my HHOF auto project.
For those who don't know about it, I have a goal of collecting 100 hard signed, HHOF autos. Not slabbed. Gotta be authentic product releases. Oh.....and I have to trade for the cards - no buying. I figure it'll be more challenging (and it'll get me more motivated to part with some of my traders).
Last week's trade night scored me this fantastic five....
Brett Hull
Boy do I love these ol' Sign Of The Times signatures. And to get him in his recognizable St. Louis Blues uniform was a nice bonus.
Guy Lafleur
That hair!! What great memories. And I love the Epic Signatures set. So much real estate for a high-quality autograph.
Vladislav Tretiak
Another iconic signature set. These Inkcredible cards from UD Retro are absolutely gorgeous....and the checklist is an all-timer. Love that I could knock off this worthy HOFer with this specific card.
Mario Lemieux
This was the card that really started it all on the big trade. I was eyeballing this piece for a few months. The design is stellar (and I couldn't believe that nobody had laid claim to it yet). Yes....the signature is not quite 100% (I don't think it's a faded auto, more just not the best pen to use on the card surface) but it is a solid sig in my eyes and a beautiful card to add to the project.
Gordie Howe
OK.....I slightly cheated on this one - but I don't care, they're my rules. I was absolutely gobsmacked by this stunner of a card and I knew I didn't have anything in my trade box to match. However, I had sold a number of cards earlier in the evening (not by intention) and so had pretty much the entire cost of the card covered. So I bought it. And boy does it ever look fantastic. Crisp signature - and I love the Mr. Hockey designation to top it off.
So....that's a big five I've added to the project. So where do things sit? I have now 78 cards in the project and I can definitely see he hitting the century mark with not to much difficulty (lots of "easy" names still to be had) so I am really excited about this.
Until next time.
