My return, headlong, into the 90s and 00s inserts... YouTube video links inside !

Well, I've recently returned to picking up hockey stuff (mostly those pesky but incredibly intriguing 90s and early 00s inserts). I have a card show in late February to completely blame for getting back in, head first.

Usually, said show is a flop with me picking up like $10 in supplies and a few singles. This one, though, had one dealer thoroughly stocked to the ceiling with inserts and parallels from that era. Of course, I was on Cloud 9, as the memories flooded back, recalling all the stuff that 15 to 18 year old me looked upon the Beckett and wasn't even in financial place to even think about owning one of those rare Roy's, Forsberg's, Lemieux's or Brodeur's.

Well, I ended up spending $150 on 55 inserts, the likes of Hasek, Gretzky, Roy, Sakic, Palffy, Selanne, Forsberg, Hull, Modano, Jagr and more. I'll get a list of what I acquired, but I was sucked back in, big time.

I'm still trying to figure out pictures, straight from my phone, which has failed everytime I've tried to upload them. I'm not doing a Flickr or even trying to recall what my photobucket info is, as I haven't been on there in probably as long as I've been away from here.

The last few weeks has been insanely huge for 18 year old me (I'm 39 now ... ). I was able to acquire 7 Cramer's Choice cards of Roy (2), Forsberg (3), Iginla and Jagr. Those would've made my year, but one of my watchlist cards had an offer that I had in my mind that I would take if it was dropped in price ... sure as hell, it dropped a bit below that. I consulted quickly with a couple friends and they said if you've got the funds, jump on it (of course, later in the week, one was listed on auction and went for $73 less, but I'm still super stoked that I got 'my' card).

The card in the build up is the 1997-98 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals Platinum Patrick Roy. I had never once owned one, in any of the other three sports that had the Precious Metals in them, and I had only dreamt of maybe, possibly, one day owning one ... well, that day has come and, AND, I have one more incoming. It's unfathomable that I will own two. I do want at least two more, as i have my core 4 of big 90s guys I'm going after, but I'm so absolutely amped to have two down, in the span on a couple weeks.

I'd continue, but without pics, my rambling grows stale. If you've got anything ultra rare of Roy, Forsberg, Brodeur or Sakic, up until 03-04, shout me a holler ! I'm definitely interested in the Pacific brand's, Donruss, Fleer, Score and Pinnacle stuff the most.

Take care and be well !

Those Precious Metals Platinum are sharp! I love that era for hockey cards, I ordered various boxes from that era during the holidays. Very fun to open packs that I couldn't afford back in the days. Good luck with your chase!

At some point, I'll bore everyone with what I've picked up since that card show in February. It's been quite a bit and, the best part, all the stuff excites me. Being solely a player collector, for the better part of 25 years, it's nice to just pick up what I like and want.

Again, I still collect my future HOF nobodies, but, only Dumba remains active, so this is a great, fun and, at times, inexpensive way to collect actual future HOF'ers !

I've added tons of my YouTube video links with most of the stuff I've acquired. I've seen others post them up, so, I've got everything, hockeycentric, posted in my original post and, after I post this, will update with new vids I create.

So, if you love Roy, Brodeur, Forsberg & Sakic and the older inserts, take a peek. They are lengthy but, I think, informative.

Big fan of all of the Roy inserts. Some that I’m still in need of myself.

Thanks for the show.

Thank you ! There's plenty more coming in. Got one of the bigger Pacific brand inserts in today. Always love getting the 1:361 pulls !

Nice Roy exclusives, I unfortunately came across it after it sold and was bummed. Glad to see it in the hands of someone on this board!

Thank ya kindly !

I was happy to get it for a fair bit cheaper than the bin was. There's been a few Roy monsters,to me, that I've got for either cheap or that I was lucky to get (96-97 Pinnacle Mask Die Cut and Ultra Clear the Ice being two big examples).

Glad to see you grab that refractor, was watching that one to see how it played out. Great price for that card in that grade.

I had seen a non-graded one sell in April and regretted not making a stronger offer. Was super happy to get this one st the price I did !
