I'm looking at purchasing a few key issues and want some feedback as to what you guys think are good investments......

Some I am eyeing up now include....First Black Widow/First Rogue/First Juggernaut/First Storm and Nightcrawler/Moonknight/Mystique and several more.....

what are your thoughts?

What are you calling affordable ($10 or $200)? What grade are you considering?

I can give you lots of ideas but I need more info. Are you looking for high grade cheap books ($50 or less), Key grades that are low grade but affordable due to grade, high grade cheap books etc....

I think it really depends on what you think is affordable and what you are interested in collecting.

Remember, comics can get insanely pricey. Farrrrr more than cards so you really have to do your research and know what you want to buy/invest your hard earned money in.

Here's some data I have on confirmed sales (from March-April-May-June) just to illustrate the importance of grade and how much things may vary:

Amazing Spiderman #6 (1st appearance of The Lizard)
Graded 7.5 = $995, $1,000, $1,055
Graded 7 = $945
Graded 6.5 = $800
Graded 6 = $510, $670
Graded 5 = $450, $550, $550
Graded 4 = $306, $425
Graded 3.5 = $315

Daredevil #1 (1st appearance of Daredevil)
Graded 8 = $2,500
Graded 6.5 = $1,150, $1,200, $1,300
Graded 6 =$1,025
Graded 5.5 = $700, $720
Graded 5 = 610

X-Men #1 (1st appearance of Cyclops, Prof X, Magneto, etc)
Graded 5 = $2,180, $2,250
Graded 4.5 = $1,380, $1,750
Graded 4 = $1,660, $1,680, $1,800
Graded 3.5 = $1,500
Graded 3 = $1,270, $1,300, $1,500, $1,500
Graded 2.5 = $885, $1,000, $1,000, $1,200
Graded 2 = $860

Grades in comics vary significantly and prices reflect that.

When talking about comics from the 60's/70's/80's etc their condition ranges from all sorts of territory. Literally a 3.0 Journey Into Mystery (1st appearance of Thor) will always sell for $2,000.

So you have to really do your research and learn what you want to collect and the prices they go for. I say stick to the biggies- they are the most liquid, most popular, and will easily be the most sought after years from now.

I've been thinking about it quite a bit lately and I don't need high graded copies. I want characters I like. I do eventually want to get some higher end characters, but a family of 3 younger kids keeps me from doing so at this time. I've always loved the X-men and am interested in a few of the villains and characters from that series......Juggernaut, Rogue, Mystique, Havok etc. etc.

I just thought it'd be interesting to see everyone's interests and views on the important key issues......let's set the bar at $300 max. and see what feedback is shared.

Iron fist #14 - first appearance of Sabertooth in a heartbeat!

I paid $275 for a 9.2. You can get a very high grade, of a super cool villain, with a great cover (it actually features Sabertooth! Not all first appearances feature the character), that is a highly sought after comic, etc

I'm no expert, but I think 1st appearance Deadpool will keep it's value for awhile. Really popular character. New Mutants #98.

I also think Juggernaut and Sabertooth are decent ones too, as mentioned above. Green Goblin won't be cheap, but it'll never come down.

If you want to stay on a budget, go for the more newer (non-golden/silver age) popular characters. There will be more higher quality comics around and so the slightly lower ones will be a bit cheaper, but still in pretty good condition.

I agree on the Deadpool. I just read my first Deadpool issue and was VERY disappointed by it.......I think I may be missing something on that character....

Isn't there a Spiderman comic that had Obama on the cover? That might be a good investment if by some miracle he can prove to be a good President. Of course, I won't be holding my breath.

There is a Spiderman variant witn Obama on the cover.

Deadpool (NM 92) is really common and will likely never see big money except graded cgc 9.8 and higher. IF 14 is one of my favorite comics and I highly recommend it, good luck finding a decent issue less than $80 unless you want a really poor issue. Cheapest is usually $50 for even a beater copy. It took a huge jump over the past few years since the Wolverine Origins movie as did Deadpools 1st app. With such a big jump I don't see major jumps anymore for a while.

Right mow everything Thanos is hot especially IM 55, that is smoking hot due to his cameo in the Avengers movie. Rumour has it that Elektro is in the next Spidey movie, that may cause ASM #9 to heat up as it is a sleeper unappreciated book that should be consider a key issue.
