Nate "The Great" Marquardt cut from the UFC

Bloody Elbow is reporting that he wasn't in danger of missing weight, and that it is not PED related either.

One of the first reports I read (I can't find the link anymore...it might have been taken down because it wasn't true) said he showed up to the weigh-ins 15 pounds overweight and doctors wouldn't let him cut any more for fear of his health. Wikipedia (not the greatest source I'm aware) seems to be running that angle still, however.

If this in fact is the case (which I would think it isn't considering Dana doesn't usually get this pissy about weight cuts for his top guys,) huge career gamble for Nate considering he could've stayed at 185 and he didn't have to drop.

Matt, in the Bloody Elbow article it does make mention of talk that he showed up at 181lbs, however, Brent Brookhouse says that the investigating that he'd done said that it wasn't an issue.

If it actually were weight, the difference would be that it caused the fight to be scrapped. In other cases (Anthony Johnson, Thiago Alves) their fights still wound up taking place. I would have to think that at this level Nate would have done a test cut, a la Kenny Florian before committing to dropping to 170.

Regardless this story is fascinating, and hopefully the reasoning for all of this comes out soon, because my mind is racing with speculative ideas.

Ariel Helwani tweeted there'll be a statement from Marquardt and his camp tomorrow...Dana White's supposed to be on the pre-show on Versus at 5 PM as well.

The PSAC rep said that Nate has been indefinitely suspended, and that it stems from an issue that Nate and the UFC were notified about six weeks ago. And something that Nate did not get cleared up. Still very ambiguous, here's the mmajunkie report:

So Marquardt said he'd address it all Tuesday himself...meanwhile, Dana said on the Versus pre-show that he was disgusted at what shook down, and that Nate would never fight in the UFC again.

Strange thing is I did read the above article...what could it be besides a medical condition judging by what's said? PEDs wouldn't result in a "Bring us the papers saying you're cleared by a doctor and you're good to go" ruling from any athletic commission I would assume. Maybe Marquardt tested positive for something like Hep A, wanted a retest and couldn't get an official test done in time (or didn't bother?) Speculation is all it is, but that article leads me to believe it can't be PED related.
