My friend sent me this pic yesterday of his son's friends signed Nathan McKinnon Prizm RC and claimed it is a $5,000 dollar card?
I did a quick search but could not find it. Just curious how accurate that assessment is?

/10 there’s one on eBay right now with a 6,999 BIN so I would say 5k would be a solid price for that type of card.

And I still can't find it? Assuming the seller does not sell/ship to Canada?

I appreciate the info.

Thanks.

Thank you!

Am I blind? I don't see anywhere on that card that reads it is a 2 of 10?

right above the word "BORN" on the back

So I am blind.

Thanks for pointing it out.

I just expanded/blew up the pic my bud sent me and seen the card I posted is card #1. Does that add anything to it being card number #1?

I just had a quick look. There is one that recently sold on ebay.

If you view the page source. You can see that it only sold for
$1499.29 USD. It's also a graded BGS 9.5, with an end date of Feb 2, so fairly recent.

That's a different card, or at least a different pose. I have no idea the difference between the 2 cards and their values, however?

2 different poses, however, so they're not the same cards.

Value-wise I'd assume they'd be pretty similar since both are a gold auto parallel numbered to 10. But values seem to be going up daily on certain players and cards. With a low print run card like that all you really need is 2 bidders going at it because neither have it whereas someone willing to spend big bucks on the one in the link above has no one bidding against him and could have gotten it for cheaper.

I'd put a 3000 or best offer and see what you get. Realistically, there less than a handful of Mack cards that have sold for $5000 or close to that. My guess is anywhere between $1000 and 2000, but probably on closer to $1000.

Keep in mind, the card is Panini, and therefore has much less market appeal. The value would only be a fraction of what a similar UD card would go for. I would say $1K value tops since it is not graded. Those Panini cards can have dimples and flaws that can be tough to detect.

Personally, I have no idea what the card is/might be worth but according to my friend, he was willing to sell it for $5,000 CDN Saturday.
He also had other cards with him, apparently, and all toll, supposedly they were worth $15 to $20 g's? If he is my friend's sons age, that would put him around 21-22 yrs of age.

These kids, if they are anything like my friend's son, are heavily invested in these cards. I have personally told my friend's son to tread carefully as all can come tumbling down in a heartbeat.

Well $5K would be a stretch, but in this day and age, you never know. The hobby nowadays is the same as it was in the early 90's, with everybody and their mother jumping on the bandwagon, determined to make a fortune, only to see it crash back down to earth after a couple years.

I remember the big crash but it seemed every company was producing massive amounts of cards flooding the market, which, imo, is what killed the hobby for the most part.

It's a little different today, and I say that lightly because it almost feels the same, but with the manufactured scarcity (1 of 1's, etc) it has kept the high rollers interested for the most part.

Not saying it won't crash, because it will, imo, but I don't know if it will crash as hard this time around?

That might once have been true. The influx of people to hockey has been mostly from basketball and football, and they gravitated immediately to brands and concepts that are familiar to them. First and foremost is Prizm, with Select close behind. I'm not foolish enough to claim that those prices will hold, but they're the reality of the market right now. A Prizm 1/1 of Mackinnon, unsigned, sold recently at $10K usd; $5K for these gold prizms is not out of line with current market.

This is Prism, and there are many basketball collectors with deep pockets who love Prism!

Yeah, I suppose I never took into consideration the collectors from other sports that seem to have wormed their way into hockey.

Regardless, if I was looking to move this card, I would at least wait until playoffs. Nate Dogg is having a rough go of it right now.

While this is entirely sensible and rational, the market has lost its bloody mind of late. Mack stuff is going ever higher at the moment.
