Hi folks,

Would appreciate a little advise on a transaction.

Bought a game used stick from someone (I don't think he is a HI member but then again I thought he once showed his collection of sticks on HI so he might be) and I paid paypal on Nov 8. He promptly replied that he would wrap it up and send it out that weekend.

After waiting a little while, I sent him an email on Nov 25 inquiring he has sent it out and by what method. He replied pretty much right away that he just sent it last week (so he delayed a little, I thought, no problem) It is now Dec 11 and still hasn't arrived. I don't want to suspect anything of the seller as he seems to be a big time stick collector and he has responded to me each time I have contacted him.

Just wanted to know your opinion:

1/ Do you guys have any experience with something like sticks being mailed? I am thinking it could be upwards of a month if coming from US to Canada? If so then I am worrying for no reason.

2/ How much longer would you wait before thinking something is amiss? Is there any recourse if my stick never arrives, in terms of with paypal? Of course I would contact the seller first

Thanks guys,

Will

p.s.
To make things worse, I had received a slip from Canada post last week and I thought it was my stick at last, but when I read the slip it showed the name of someone else who is also in the same unit but in the next building over. I contacted the guy and gave him the slip and told him to let me know if Canada Post made a mistake and wrote him the slip for my package. I haven't heard from the guy and now I am all paranoid that Canada Post messed up and now some guy is enjoying my game used stick. I know I know...paranoia is taking over! I am

I had almost the exact same scenario just happen with a card instead of a stick.

I sent a card from Calgary to a guy in Maryland. The card arrived in a few days.

The guy told me he immediately sent the card I was expecting in return. 4 weeks later I got a little worried.

I got a little more worried when I kept getting other people's mail in my P.O. box and figured Canada Post had given the vintage psa graded rc I was waiting for to someone else.

The card arrived safely in my box 5 weeks later.

My advice, wait a bit longer, your stick is crossing the border around x-mas time and it sounds like you are dealing with a reputable seller.

good luck!

I sent Turcocollector3 some Turco gloves and skates in a pretty decently sized box from TX to WPG and it took like 6 weeks or something crazy like that in October I think. This time of year I wouldn't be surprised if it took 8 weeks. The mail people seem to be in no real hurry as of late.

thanks guys, I don't think I am as worried knowing it has been about a month only. As you've mentioned it could take longer

though that canada poste slip I received that is in someone else's name kind of freaked me out

Incidentally, today the seller wrote me an email asking if I've received it. He said he is getting worried. I just wrote him back and asked him if he remember which day exactly he had sent it out.

Hopefully I get it before Christmas.

UPDATE:

I paid on Nov 8 and now it is Dec 30. It has almost been two months and no stick.

Is there anything I can do in terms of filing a claim with paypal? I am not sure but I think there is a deadline of 60 days or something like that. I don't want my money back as long as the stick is enroute, but I don't want to miss a deadline with paypal either.

I am not 100% on the seller. I don't think he is the cheating type, but you never know. At this point, I am just wondering if there is anything I should do with paypal to ensure that I am protected.

Who is the seller ? (PM me if you don't want to post his name) I had a problem a few years ago buying a stick from a guy who periodically showed up on the boards.

Also, file a claim. If the stick shows, re-pay the fellow.

I sent a card in September that has yet to get the Canada....I had to refund the money, but things happen, the Post Office is not fool proof unfortunately...

basically just stay optimistic...give customs the benefit of the doubt

hope that helps

Koondog, I pm'ed you.

I hope this is not the same guy you had trouble with.

He seems friendly in all our exchange so far so I want to have faith in him.

I guess I can't file a claim after all. It has been too long. From paypal's site:

"Disputes must be filed no later than 45 days from the date of payment. Disputes must be escalated into a claim no later than 20 days from the date the dispute has been filed."

I thought it was 60 days for some reason. Seller has not responded to email for 2 days now, so I would say it is not looking so rosy.
