Somebody had a pic of a Pens photoshoot jersey from 06-07 where they've sewn on something like "2006-07 Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Team" or something like that along the back underneath the numbers. I've also heard the same thing as you though...sometimes up and down the arm (it would make sense for teams like the Hurricanes who have (had?) a border at the bottom of the jersey.But yes, everybody speaks the truth here...extra letters are added for the sake of creating more photoshoot patch cards.
