Hey guys! I'm currently at my first steps in the "true" vintage hobby, after starting to collect a bit of modern cards with vintage memorabilia... I've found a bunch of auctions on some 52/53 Parkhurst this past Saturday afternoon. I won most of the Habs I bid on, missing only the Geoffrion...

However, I was wondering if it was normal that the Richard went for so low... I understand that it's not at the best possible shape, but still.. A second year Richard?

Anyway, I'll do my first vintage show n' tell, but I want your advice on this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...dvJB6xU%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Thanks guys! :-)

I have a soft spot for these kind of cards. It is not worth much, but it has a story of its own. When I see a card like this I try to think of all the people who handled and enjoyed this card. I have bought cards in this type of shape when I have seen them because to me they are a snapshot of history. If I were speculating on a card like this I would certainly buy a graded copy in e-nm or better. Even though the graded card would be far more expensive than the copy you have shown, for me it just would not have the same charm.

It went that low because of the condition.

A lot of the worst condition vintage cards are the star players. Remember that cards were once actually touched, Posted in books, stuck or pinned on bedroom walls, shown off and carried around in kids pockets. The more popular the player the more wear that is likely to be on the card. Same with the first and last card # in each set. Card #1 is usually more valuable just because of the abuse it took from elastic bands, rope or just being the first card in the box.

I don't mind lower grade vintage, to me it only shows how the hobby use to be. A lot of my vintage cards show major wear. The Leafs have pin holes or black tape marks from being pinned or posted on my bedroom wall. Most of the Habs all have moustache and horns drawn on the players:devil: Most of the rest have dinged corners from being used in knock downs, however this was usually my doubles as I always had a master set. I don't ever remember putting them in the spokes of my bike but I do know kids thast did.
