So with the new USMCA (NAFTA) deal there is no duty on online purchase of $150 (lifted from $20) or less when purchasing from US retailers. So I guess eBay and COMC should be removing there import fees on anything less than $150. If any US eBay seller still uses the eBay global shipping program (which is a big scam) and selling anything less then $150 they should start removing it when selling to Canadian's. This should take affect DEC 1. So everything should change in the new year.

Just wanted to point this out.

Thanks

That is good news. However I doubt many sellers will remove the GSP because they aren’t aware of this. And they think they have to use it no matter what. Like most hobbyists in Canada, I don’t but from any seller using the GSP as like you said, it’s a scam.

I hope they get educated. I to stay away from all sellers using GSP. With buying cards and by other hobby (collecting Hot Wheels).

It's not that the sellers should stop with GSP, but rather that GSP should no longer charge a brokerage fee for duties on anything under 150.

Does anyone know: Do you pay more than s/h costs with GSP now, if the price is under $20 ???

Honestly, any time I want a card, I send a message pointing out how much of a scam the GSP is. I have converted HUNDREDS of sellers to ship to Canadians via USPS International Priority and if all of us did it, we'd convert more.

eBay makes enough money off of everything WE, their customers, do.

Just a reminder that the new "NAFTA" is at this point only an agreement in principal. Still has to be ratified by all parties. It will be interesting to see what the U.S. Congress thinks of it and to see who "wins" with this.

Good news for certain online purchases, but the change in duty levels has nothing to do with cards - people talk about duties all the time, but there is NO duty on sports cards.

The only fees you pay on cards coming to Canada from the US are:

1) Taxes - This threshold is rising slightly, but if you're making a purchase of $100+ you should still expect to be hit with HST.

2) Brokerages fees - These are charged by Canada Post, UPS, etc. and have nothing to do with duty.

There's no reason for Ebay and COMC to change anything, all they're doing is recovering what they have to lay out to the CRA for sales to Canadian buyers.

An awful lot of misinformation and misunderstanding this thread.

Craig has it 100% correct.

Also, the while the tax threshold has increased slightly, from $20 - $40, the only changes you should see in the GSP are on cards that fall within that price range. But I am willing to bet you will still see higher than average shipping costs on anything under that program.

I also saw something in the news yesterday regarding a price break on shipping costs on goods shippjng between the two countries, but unfortunately it does not apply to USPS or Canada Post. So same status quo if you use those companies, a slight discount if you opt to use the others, knowing that any savings are going to be offset by brokerage charges and guaranteed taxes paid.
