How's it going!

It's been a while since I've posted, but things have been good here! I, like many people in this hobby, lost sight of the fun of it. I blew some big money on products with little to no return. An old friend of mine was asking questions about the hobby recently and we got to talking about box breaks growing up. Looking for "Rookie Cards" of all of our favourite players. This has led to quite a fun/cheap adventure recently.

Thanks to the over production of the late 80's and 1990's, boxes from that era are DIRT CHEAP...and yet so full of nostalgia.

First here's a few pickups:

I saw this Shanahan patch for super cheap on COMC (what a help to the hobby COMC is!!)

Then I got super distracted looking at some old SPx sets. SPx has always been one of my favourite products. Cheap Rookie Jsy/Autos! What's not to like?

So I decided I'd put together the 2003/04 SPx set. Here's what I have so far (Hudler incoming, still need: Stajan, Vrobiev, Hamhuis, Ehroff, Bergeron, Fleury, Tootoo, Brown, Vermette, Moen and Semin)

Now here's the fun part! I've broken 5 old boxes recently (total spent: $75 USD)

1990/91 Score:

Such a fun break! Loved seeing all those Brodeurs pop up! Weird collation in these older sets, but again so stinking fun!

1991/92 Upper Deck (2 boxes of low series, 1 box of high series)

Check out all of those Hasek, Selanne and Forsberg rookies! Oddly enough only 1 Lidstrom Canada Cup rookie! Again though such a fun break and for dirt cheap! Plus the "Find the Hull" hunt for the Brett Hull autos are super fun! Didn't find one, but the possibility being there was cool!

1989/90 Topps:

Also grabbed 2 Linden rookies. Still...such a fun break! Was saving the gum and daring myself to eat it, but I just couldn't do it...

Finally, I grabbed this box of 1987 Topps Baseball to break later with my buddy! Again for $17 what could go wrong?

Thanks for the look, I hope y'all enjoyed the trip down memory lane. If anyone has any of my needs from 2003/04 SPx F/S please let me know. Also if you have/know of old cheap wax (not pro-set) please let me know!

Thanks again, Andrew

I ate a piece of gum out of 1990/91 Bowman in the Spring... it was just as bad as when they first put it in, though even more grainy then when fresh. And I didn't get sick... or blind. :)

Thanks for the share on the old school!

That's awesome! Iv'e been busting those old boxes for months now and I have to say that it is just as much fun now as it was when I was a kid! Thanks for the show!

Awesome! So glad to hear that you are finding some fun in the hobby again. Many of us have been there, and when we find something that we enjoy or is meaningful from the hobby, it wakes up the hobby love again!
