So anyone watching the NHL lately may have noticed the emergence of a new starting goalie this year, Darcy Kuemper!!! Always been a fan as I watched him in junior where he got WHL Goalie of the year. Its taken him awhile to establish himself (and an injury to the previous starter) but he has taken the reigns in Arizona and made them (at the moment at least) a playoff team. I think his numbers are great, what do you think. Has he played himself into the top 5 for Vezina voting? If he keeps it up could he crack the top 3?

He's had a solid year, but Vezina finalist? I'm not so sure.

Top two easily have to be Vasilevskiy and MA Fleury. After that it drops off a bit. If they weren't battling each other for games, Greiss and Lehner would be in the convo as well, and possibly still are.

Saw some stats and had to look it up to see for myself, but Ben Bishop has quietly entered the conversation.

24W, 2.05 GAA (2nd in league behind Binnington), .933 SV% (1st in league), 6 SO (T-2nd in league)

If you look at the stats, I think he has to be in the conversation. Add in the fact he is Arizona and I think he definitely has to be. And yes, I agree, Bishop maybe moving ahead of the others right now. Final part of the season is big for all those involved.

Goals Against Average
Bishop 2.05
Lehner 2.19
Greiss 2.22
Vasilevskiy 2.27
Kuemper 2.48
Fleury 2.48

Save Percentage
Bishop .933
Vasilevskiy .929
Greiss .928
Lehner .927
Kuemper .921
Andersen .920
Fleury .912

I think besides the fact Fleury has played a tonne his numbers have fallen. I think the 3 best may just be Bishop, Vasilevskiy and Kuemper (if the Isles pair split their votes).

As I was scrolling down, I was thinking what about Ben Bishop; then I saw this post.

Lehner has been good for a while. He is used to not having a lot of scoring in front of him being with Ottawa and Buffalo before comeing the more defensively reliable Islanders. He is definitely having a solid year but I think that some othe rteam wearing Blue with have the Vezina on it. (most likely Tampa Bay)

Except Kuemper has paid his dues and has a track record (top whl goalie) and such. Hes not coming out of nowhere but finally getting the chance. A better analogy would be Dubnyk finally getting his chance any going on that huge run!!

My mistake, I posted without rereading the thread and had it in my mind that it was more about Binnington, who is more similar to Hammond, in coming from nowhere and having limited games played.

My best,

ken
