Does anybody know Upper Deck's plans for next years Series 1 and the Young Gun RC's? Will they still be released in early November? Will they contain all the expected rookies like Alexis Lafrenière?

The announced release date is still November 5th... Regular season isn't starting til December 1st (if theres no more pandemic hiccups)

It will be all carryover guys in Series 1...which will include any rookies making debuts in these playoffs the next 2 months too.

That would mean Lafreniere YG in UD2

The next UD1 could be a dud depending on the timeline of events. There's a lot of uncertainty right now even around finishing the current season much less starting the next one.

a lot of the S1 images are from pre-season games so I'd be surprised if UD has enough holdovers from 2019-20 to even fulfill 2020-21 Series 1. If anything all released will get pushed back with the NHL season

Maybe they do like artifacts redemption style? With wild cards being a second rookie thats played early in the season.

I see a few options:

1. Delay the release
2. Non-RCs (i.e. Flashback cards. Looks at the 2004-05 UD Checklist)
3. Holdovers
4. Get the NHL/PA to grant an exception on the licensing rule "must have played a game"

numbern9ne always keeps a good record of rookies in these threads:

So right now: There's 32 carry over rookies. They need 50 for a set, but one is a checklist... so they're 17 short.

For the sake of argument, let's suggest another 7 players make their NHL debut in the playoffs, leaving them 10 short.

Would UD be able to get the NHL & PA to say "okay, for this one set, this one time... you can put 10 players in before they make their debut" ?? I don't know.

They could just do a 2004-05 style set. Maybe instead of using retired stars, feature current star players that never had a YG ? Something like that? They could even split the set 50/50 between those, and carry over guys.

Or, just push the whole thing back. The problem with that is, how far? If the league starts up on December 1st, and they planned to have Series 1 released before Christmas, I guess that all works. They could do Series 2 in March, or even April.

Thing is though, what happens when the season doesn't start on December 1st? Do they push it back again?

I'm going to bet that UD does not push the release back, comes up with a checklist that they'll be able to release in November, no matter what, and they'll have a stacked Series 2 lineup in February (if the season happens).

I think in Sports Card Live interview with the UD product manager he said they where hoping for an exception from the PA but nothing was done yet. Hopefully they do allow early release for some players.

Also... since we know where LaFreniere is *not* going (Ottawa, Detroit, etc.), what if he winds up with one these teams and IS included in Series 1:

Vancouver,
Calgary,
Edmonton,
Winnipeg,
Montreal,
Toronto,
Pittsburgh,
Chicago,
New York Rangers,

Now what is his Young Guns card worth?

Creasecollector and I discussed this on our podcast, Center Ice Card Cast, and we both hope he ends up in Montreal...how amazing would that be for the hobby?!

Start hoarding cases as soon as possible if Montreal gets first pick.

My guess in CDN
Van- 250
Cal-150
Edm-300
Win- 200
Mon- 500
Tor-350
Pitt- 200
Chi- 200
NYR- 150
Columbus- 40

A little birdie told me that the NHLPA is going to make an exception and allow “a few of the top picks (including LaFreniere) to be included in Series One”.

So in other words a Rick Nash photoshoot style YG:

Do you think if UD gets Alexis Lafrenière with a special exemption, will that effect his Young Gun value or will it be just as in demand as if he was playing at the time?

Lafreniere's hype will be based on which team drafts him. If he ends up in Arizona or Carolina you could be looking at Jack Hughes prices. If he somehow ends up in Montreal, Pittsburgh or Edmonton he could start out at the $100-$125 USD range or more.
