Talks between the NHL and NHLPA are back on.
The two sides will have a ''small-group'' meeting involving the top lieutenants for each side - NHL vice present Bill Daly and NHLPA vice president Ted Saskin - as well as NHL chairman of the board Harley Hotchkiss and NHLPA president Trevor Linden and assorted legal staff, John McCambridge for the NHLPA and Bob Batterman for the NHL.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday at an undisclosed location and it will be the first time both sides have met since December 14.
"We think it is appropriate and hopefully useful to engage in these discussions at this time. We are not meeting to present a new proposal and remain committed to reaching a fair deal that does not include a salary cap," said NHLPA senior director Ted Saskin in a statement.
It should be noted that neither NHL commissioner Gary Bettman or NHLPA executive director Bob Goodenow will participate in the meeting.
This is a last ditch, see if there's anything they can agree on and see if there's any chance to save it in my eyes.
The NHL has been rumoured to be working on a proposal. If this is true it's possible some principals may be discussed at the meeting.
I kinda doubt it, but they may, I think the NHL is working on a deal that they will give to the players that will be the system they want in place should they go to impass and get to implement their own CBA.
Should be interesting, biggest meeting yet, as it will be one of the last this season without question.
