NHL Poll (does anyone care anymore?) Part 2

If there WAS a shortened season, would it be tainted? (Please respond indicating why)

I think that the shortened season would be tainted because the winning team would not have to go through the grind of a long regular season to get to the playoffs.

Not tainted at all. Everyone is playing the same amount of games. Everyone has the same chance at the start of the year. Plus if you recall, 50 years ago the schedule was about half as long. But lets not kid ourselves, they've got a long way to go on the negotiations before we see a new CBA in place. Today, it could all come to a crashing halt.

As the first person to vote "No", I guess I have to defend my position...:) Personally, IF they can squeeze a 30 game schedule out, I think that would be more than enough to seperate the contenders from the others. Honestly, I can't imagine a team that truly is awful somehow making the playoffs after 30 regular season games. As for the playoffs, I think the play would be brisk and as intense if they had played a full 82. Of course, this is completely moot, since I sincerely doubt that they will get a season in this year. /shakes fist/ Darn you NHL! /shakes fist/

The season is definitely tainted but I think that playoffs are separate and will still have it's integrity. They will still have the same number of teams and the same number of games. It's just a lot shorter season to get to that point.

Tainted, It would look like they just hashed otu a quick deal to save some face and money (oh no, money issue again!) I think even if they make a deal, they should cancel (the season) and just start fresh in 05/06, Clean slate, new attitude.
There would be too much distraction if they tried to pump out a 30 game or so season.

WOuld it be tatinted?? No!!! The best team would just win it quicker!! No mid season injuries, right into the playoffs!!!

I don't care what anyone else thingks, I want Hockey NOW!! Both sides are wrong!!

Get together boys!!

I agree with the minority,

It wouldn't matter if they had a 5 game season, with all due respect I don't really care very much about the regular season. The Stanley Cup Tournament is where you decide the champion. Given the shortened version of the season IF they somehow came to a conclusion they should probably just expand the playoff spots to include more teams and let more of them eliminate each other to decide the champ.

If they can get a 30-40 game season in, which I might add is very possible, then it will not be tainted. Most people were calling for a shorter season already instead of the 80 or so we would normally have. Three to four games a week is not a light or easy season. That is more games in a week than are typically played. That makes for a grueling regular season to set up for the playoffs. I am not opposed to watching a short season. I am still optimistic that this can be done.
J.R. is not opposed to a cap. He is opposed to the cap being set so low. So apparently, at least one player is in favor of a cap. J.R, also recognizes the fact that Hockey is already forgotten in the mainstream consciousness. He knows that there is a long term effect of this lockout and collective bargaining snafu that reaches far beyond what the owners and players are aware of.
This is something that should have been worked on long before this season was scheduled to start. Stupid owners and players.
Anyway, some hockey will be better than no hockey.

The regular season is much to long anyways, I think it should be only 50 games or so. So, I say, not tainted.
