14-15 Upper Deck Series Two Day With The Cup DC22 Craig Campbell and Phil Pritchard
I'll begin with an awesome card I received from Norm (trekrun) out of the blue!
For some reason I really like the Day With The Cup inserts that feature the people who spend more time with the Stanley Cup than anyone else -- the white-gloved employees of the HHOF. I already own the 2012-13 Phil Pritchard card, as well as a special card that was part of a set produced for the HHOF keepers. This card. from 2014-15, is the third and most recent in the series. The sixteen Day With The Cup cards inserted into 2015-16 Upper Deck Series One all feature Blackhawks players.
The text on the card back:
"The tradition of the Red Carpet walk began in 1994, when the Rangers ended their 54-year championship drought, and it has become one of the sport's greatest moments. Hockey Hall of Fame staff members Craig Campbell and Phil Pritchard have had the honor to walk out the Stanley Cup, white gloves and all, for the formal presentation by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman for close to 20 years."
Thanks a ton for sending the card, Norm! It's one of my favorites from the 14-15 product year.

00-01 Private Stock Retail Scott Hartnell RC (034/230)
Next up will be a whole bunch of random rookie cards. Admittedly, this is a part of my collection that I'm really focusing less and less on, as the effort required to keep up on it has eclipsed my interest in the project.
This isn't a particularly easy card to find, and it's one of Scott Hartnell's better RCs. There hasn't been much for Blue Jackets fans to get excited about this season, but the Hartnell-for-Umberger trade keeps looking better and better.
-------------------------------------------------------
02-03 In The Game-Used 193 Steve Eminger RC (41/100)
Do I really care about completing Steve Eminger's 41 rookie cards? When I bought this one a few months ago, maybe I did. It's rare, and it was cheap, so I might as well give it a spot in my collection.
-------------------------------------------------------
08-09 UD Black 79 B.J. Crombeen RC (009/399)
It's always been a challenge to collect RCs from UD Black when only looking for cards containing the first letter of the player's name. Depending on the size of the name, that almost certainly limits a potential print run to under 100 copies.
Here are two I recently acquired -- starting with the "C" from Crombeen.
-------------------------------------------------------
09-10 UD Black 55 Spencer Machacek RC (059/499)
The second UD Black RC contains the "M" from Machacek.
-------------------------------------------------------
10-11 The Cup Andrew Bodnarchuk RC (035/249)
Andrew Bodnarchuk is now an AHL player for the Blue Jackets, currently skating with the Lake Erie Monsters. The swatch on this card has three colors and three layers -- yellow patch, white patch, and black jersey. The signature contains a random assortment of loops and lines that share zero resemblance with "Andrew" or "Bodnarchuk" or any words in the English language.
-------------------------------------------------------
10-11 The Cup Jeremy Morin RC (204/249)
Here's another low-end Cup RC, featuring former Blue Jacket Jeremy Morin. The swatch on this one has four layers -- red jersey, black patch, brown patch, and black patch.
-------------------------------------------------------
12-13 Crown Royale Carter Ashton RC (62/99)
Carter Ashton, originally a draft pick of the Lightning, was re-acquired by Tampa Bay during the 2014-15 season. I went out and purchased his awesome Crown Royale Silhouettes rookie card. He's now in the KHL, and probably won't ever play a game with the Bolts. Awesome.
This card is from the Rookie Anthology update set, and features a three-layer prime jersey swatch -- blue jersey, white seam, and blue jersey.
-------------------------------------------------------
14-15 UD Canvas C18 Duncan Keith
This card was an extra in an ebay lot. It will head to my tradelist, which actually means it will head to a forgotten box on my bookshelf, where it will remain for the rest of eternity.
-------------------------------------------------------
14-15 UD Canvas C115 Vladislav Namestnikov
This might be a timely addition -- Namestnikov has recently spent time on the Lightning's top line with Steven Stamkos!
-------------------------------------------------------
14-15 UD Canvas C214 Jonathan Drouin
This might not be a timely addition (though it's a great card) -- Drouin is out injured for the second or third time already this season.
-------------------------------------------------------
14-15 SPX Kerby Rychel RC (092/399)
Here's another timely addition (at the risk of overusing the phrase) -- Kerby Rychel, on his third or fourth recall from the AHL, has made it into the Blue Jackets lineup. Of course, he's usually one of the first Columbus names brought up in trade rumors, as a possible expendable piece to help the CBJ get some defensive help.
This SPx RC has a big white jersey swatch, with a few small stitch holes on the fabric.
-------------------------------------------------------
2014 Upper Deck Fall Expo 25th Anniversary Young Guns UD25-MS Martin St. Louis
2015 Upper Deck Spring Expo 25th Anniversary Young Guns UD25-BR Brad Richards
Here are two awesome retro Young Guns cards, featuring early photos of two of the Lightning's most important members of the 2003-04 Stanley Cup team. The cards were released as promo items at the expo in Toronto during the 2014-15 season.
-------------------------------------------------------
13-14 KHL Stickers 307 Nikita Gusev
13-14 KHL Stickers 383 Andrei Vasilevskiy
I recently acquired three stickers from the 2013-14 KHL sticker set. Although these stickers contain no copyright information, I do believe that they are a legitimate and sanctioned release by the league.
Nikita Gusev was a 7th-round pick of the Lightning in 2012. He's tremendously skilled, but very small, and there's no guarantee he'll come over to play in North America. However, he's close friends with Lightning star Nikita Kucherov, so that might help. Gusev was recently traded to St. Petersburg SKA in the KHL.
Andrei Vasilevskiy is pretty well known by now -- the Lightning's backup goalie, and one of the best goaltending prospects in hockey.
-------------------------------------------------------
13-14 KHL Stickers 408 Kristian Kudroc
The third sticker I acquired is a player collection item! Kristian Kudroc spent time with both the Detroit Vipers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Another player I collect, Martin Cibak, was also in the KHL during the 2013-14 season. I'm not sure if he has a sticker in this set, but I was unable to locate one so far.
-------------------------------------------------------
2014-15 MSC KHL Not Fit NF-19 Kristian Kudroc
This next card is a little strange.
First, some background on Kudroc's situation. He ended the 2013-14 season playing for Barys Astana, and then signed with Avangard Omsk in May of 2014. However, during a pre-season tournament, he suffered a head injury. His contract with Omsk was terminated, and he sat out the entire 2014-15 season.
So, it's strange to find a card with Kudroc pictured wearing an Omsk jersey. It's especially odd when the name of the card set is "Not Fit" -- a phrase that is extraordinarily bizarre to find on a trading card. Does this refer to Kudroc's injury, or was something else lost in translation? This isn't a small set -- it looks like there were at least 40-50 different cards produced, but I haven't found a complete checklist.
My next question -- what happened to SeReal? That's the company that made several really nice KHL sets during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and then just about disappeared off the face of the planet. Their website shows that they have a Jokerit team-specific set out for 2015-16, but not much else. It appears that the company MSC stepped in to make KHL cards during 2014-15, including this one.
The end result is that this is a strange card that I find rather hard to categorize, as there's so little information about it. I can't even say with 100% certainty that it's a fully-licensed card, but I'd lean toward thinking this one is legit. The illegitimate KHL cards are usually very easy to tell -- they're sold by one or two notorious sellers and steal designs from 10-15 year old NHL products.
An epilogue on Kudroc: he attempted a comeback, signing with Metallurg Novokuznetsk in June 2015. Unfortunately, after playing in the pre-season, he had his contract terminated for family reasons.
-------------------------------------------------------
11-12 Pinnacle Starting Six Jerseys Prime (50/50)
-- Patrice Bergeron (Yellow/Black) / Milan Lucic (Yellow/Black) / Matt Bartkowski (Yellow/Black)
-- Nathan Horton (White/Yellow) / Zdeno Chara (Yellow/Black) / Tim Thomas (White/Black)
Nothing but Tim Thomas (and a few of his awful friends) for the rest of the post. Here's a six-jersey card from 11-12 Pinnacle -- it's the prime parallel to the base jersey version I already own. Honestly, the design is nothing special, but the swatches are quite nice -- every single one has a very thick seam.
-------------------------------------------------------
11-12 SP Game Used Authentic Fabrics Quad AF4-BOS (05/10)
-- Tim Thomas (Yellow Jersey) / Patrice Bergeron (White Jersey)
-- Zdeno Chara (Black Jersey) / Tuukka Rask (Black Jersey)
I like the design on this card a little more, and the low print run certainly helps. It's not a card I would have paid a lot for, but I was the only bidder on a very inexpensive auction.
-------------------------------------------------------
Base Cards from 07-08 Upper Deck Series One
The hobby equivalent of packing peanuts.
-------------------------------------------------------
13-14 Panini Totally Certified Clear Cloth Jersey Prime CL-TTH Tim Thomas (22/25)
Those base cards were shipped with this very nice Tim Thomas jersey card, with one of my favorite designs from the 13-14 season. I already have the base jersey version, and this one is even thicker, with a huge swatch from a yellow/black jersey seam. Acetate is definitely not used as much as it should be, and I think it worked to good effect in this set.
-------------------------------------------------------
13-14 Between The Pipes Vezina Winner VW-45 Tim Thomas (2010-11) (/5)
I like this card for the swatch and the print run. I also like it for the price. The frozen pizza I'm going to throw in the oven tonight cost more than this card did.
I don't like much else about it.
This card epitomizes the late-era unlicensed ITG stuff that I was thankful to generally be able to stay away from. Tim Thomas was featured in ITG products with a single player agreement for years, but after that expired, a few picture-less cards were still produced.
This one is part of the Vezina Winner set, and apparently Tim Thomas has two different cards in the run. The ITG website claims that VW-44 is for the 2010-11 Vezina win, and that VW-45 is for 2008-09. That must be backwards, because this is card #45, and the 2010-11 season is clearly described on the back. As it is, I haven't confirmed the existence of VW-44 yet, so I'll just have to keep watching ebay for it to inevitably surface. I know where to look.
Like I said, it's got a nice swatch -- a decent-sized jersey piece with black, yellow, and white. Otherwise, it's just not an attractive card. Put Thomas' picture on the front, number it to 5, and stamp an Upper Deck logo on it, and it's easily worth a lot more -- both in monetary terms and for its place in my collection.
-------------------------------------------------------
10-11 Dominion Brand Logo Tim Thomas (4/6)
Here's a card with a similar print run that I find much more entertaining and attractive! Back when this product was new, I acquired several of the Tim Thomas base parallels, but missed out on this one -- perhaps the one I wanted the most. The swatch contains five layers from the Reebok logo on the back of the jersey -- yellow jersey / black patch / yellow embroidery / black embroidery / yellow embroidery.
The problem with 10-11 Dominion was the astounding number of base set parallels. I'll try to run them down here for record-keeping purposes.

2010-11 Dominion Jerseys Prime Laundry Tag 10 Tim Thomas (/6) (not owned)
-------------------------------------------------------
11-12 The Cup Masterpieces Printing Plates Yellow Tim Thomas (1/1)
Finishing things off is a 1/1 plate from The Cup. It's my second from the 11-12 year, as I also own the magenta version. This one had been on ebay at least a dozen times, but the price gradually came down after every few times it was listed. I waited for a while, then moved in when the price was right.
This is the 80th true 1/1 in my Tim Thomas collection.

News and notes:
** The current/ongoing segment of my rookie project has basically been discontinued. It's just too hard to keep up on. That focuses my motivations on the player collections, which should have some interesting items coming in before the end of the year.
** Too much other stuff going on in the past two months! Got a new car, took a 3-week trip through Florida and adjacent areas, and watched both my favorite hockey teams quickly place themselves well below expectations. It's still early, right?
That'll be it. Thanks everyone!
