From the tsn.ca files....

Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger will not face any disciplinary action from the National Hockey League for stomping on Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler on Wednesday night.

The incident happened in the opening minute of the second period in Anaheim's zone after a dump in from the blue line by Canucks defenceman Sami Salo.

In December, New York Islanders forward Chris Simon received a 30-game suspension for trying to step on Pittsburgh forward Jarkko Ruutu's foot.

HHmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Interestin'

Burke = former NHL disciplinarian = favor? lol, I don't know... haven't even looked at the stomp yet, but it's fun to stir up rumors.

It seems that at least this year the NHL discipline policy is to take no action where there is likelihood that the victim of a unsportmanlike act is likely to be in the lineup for his team's next game. I hope this topic gets addressed in the offseason, as the intent remains the same regardless of the injury sustained.

Ryan

I've seen worse things done with no discipline given, and I've seen less done with too much discipline given. No one was hurt, intent was there though, he got off easy. Deserved at least one game.

Just wondering when the Vancouver players are going to start crying and put a bounty on Prongers head.............. :whatthehell:

What worse things have you seen, other than the obvious Dale Hunter/Marty Mcsorely/Chris Simon/Steve Downie classics?

Stomping or kicking with skates on is about as bad as it can get. Those blades are super sharp, and I'd love to know the actual measured amount of force that Pronger would put down in a stride let alone a stomp.

The NHL is really showing the double standard more than ever, and the amazing thing is Chris Pronger was the guy people compared the Simon/Downie incidents with.

It was asked time after time, Would Chris Pronger get the same suspension if he did what Simon did? The answer is no, and its sick.

Bob Mackenzie(the biggest douche in hockey) says there isn't conclusive evidence. There is video, and Kesler came out and said...the guy stomped me on the calf.

You guys seriously must be blind.

Explain the difference between the Simon stomp and the Pronger stomp?

Simon's was slower with more weight. Pronger's was faster with more power.

I can't believe people are sticking up for a guy like Pronger who has gotten away with murder the last few seasons. If they punished him equally over his career like they have Simon, their rap sheets wouldnt look too much different.

I like Pronger by the way. It was a hard *** stomp. If it wasn't Kesler wouldn't have said so.

I agree with moosejaw. He deliberately stepped on a player with his skate. End of story. He should have gotten a huge suspension. You can't use your skate as a weapon!

Its kind of hard to tell exactly how bad this is in the video but I think frankiefive has is correct - you just can't around using your skate or boot as a weapon - and the league should have responded. I don't think this is as malicious as what I was intending but it certainly deserved some sort of punishment.

I think in this case that they couldn't prove Prongers intent. He was tangled up and MAY have been off balance and trying to get his foot down. Simons was obvious as both players were standing straight up.

Do I believe Pronger was off balance and had no malicious intent? Heck no!! He did it on purpose. But I don't think the evidence was 100% conclusive, so the NHL decided it didn't warrant action.

Cory

Even if he was off balance as Cory offered could be the case it deserved a hearing before officials to see how he explained it and to explain the facts of life.As it is now they are effectively telling him the he will receive special consideration because he is a highly paid star.

It was clearly a stomp, and off the top of my head I am guessing Pronger is repeat offender #2 behind Simon? NO DOUBT there should have been a suspension of 5-10 games if Simon's was 30. Ridiculous.

I truly wonder if Chris Simon could sue the NHL for their obvious bias and inconsistencies regarding their discipline policy.

At the very least to get his wages back.

It would be so easy to put a side by side comparison of the things Pronger has done and gotten away with, that would be so comparable to Simons.

This is crap! Pronger is in my book the #3 ranked goon in the league. And he continues to get away with it. He should have gotten 30 games, no questions asked. It's a repeat of the Simon stomp and should have received the same.

I can't believe some of the crap I've read and heard.

It was clearly a friggin stomp.

Simon had 7 suspensions prior to his stomp and got 30 games.
Pronger has 7 suspensions prior to his stomp and got off scot free.

Thats pure BS in my opinion. He deserves 15 or so games. You can't go around stepping on people it's as simple as that.

2 years ago Wade Belak fell and his stick hit someone on the face on the way down. Completely accidental and even the lleague acknoweldged it. But they said 'you have to know what your going at all times and where your stick is' and he got a 2 game suspension. Pronger HAS to know Kesler is on the friggin ground around his legs he doesn't need to go flapping his feet.

I agree,
it's completely unbelievable they gave him the benefit of the doubt.

When you've got 7 suspensions, you don't get the benefit of the doubt, you have a track record and you should be assumed guilty.

It's flat out pathetic he got away with this.

I'd love to see Chris Simon sue the league for his wages over that 30 game suspension, that'd put the league in it's place.

But he'd get blackballed
