I don't see what the problem people have is. A team that loses the play in series i.e. does not make the playoffs will get the pick. It's no different than say the team sitting in 9-10 draft spot winning the lottery and moving to #1 if the season completed normally. Just the past few seasons we've seen teams like the Jets, Stars, Flyers, and Devils make big jumps up the draft by winning one of the three lottery positions. This year it just happened to be for the #1 spot. Screw the Red wings and Senators.
