Not collecting a player because of his auto?

Hi all,

Just wanted to know if I am on my own with this?

Johnny Gaudreau is the super star flame right now but I finf it really hard to buy his cards as I think his auto just flat out sucks.

I keep looking at it and the more I do the more it bugs me. With his prices being so high I just can't pull the trigger, has anyone else ever had this?

Jonathan Drouin. I have a little stash of his stuff, mostly Mooseheads years, and his auto was usually decent back then. Now the only NHL card I have of his is a FWA and it's a streaky scribble. Autos he signed since then are miraculously even worse.

It could be worse. You could be the person who paid over USD$100 for the 07-08 Heroes and Prospects Luca Caputi auto I sold during his callup with the Penguins during 08-09. :)
 
Not fully collect a player, but I remember after Rasmus Ristolainen scored the "Golden Goal" in the 2014 WJC, I thought about picking up an auto'd photo from D&A of the shot, Risto in his nations colors, inscribed with "Golden Goal".

That is until I saw he now signs everything with just "RR55"...
 
I would love to add some Jamie Benn autos to my collection, but just have zero interest in a JB scribble. Jordie for that matter, as well. I also have zero Sergei Samsonov autos in my collection.
 
I would probably collect Eric Comrie cards but his signature is one of the worst in a while.. I'll stick to his gamers instead of paying for an inch by inch piece of fabric and an E and checkmark signature

For a few months there were some really ugly Carey Price signatures getting out there; fortunately, the effort level was corrected.

There's not really any Habs guys that I'm on the fence about due to the quality of their signature. Max's I wish was a bit better, but I still collect him and his signatures. I wish PK signed more. The Gally's I like a bunch. Fucale has a neat stylized auto. Doesn't matter what David Desharnais signs like.
 
I don't have too much room to talk with Elias' auto being terrible but I never bothered picking up a Kovalchuk autograph while he was on the team. Did get some awesome GU stuff to add some light blue, navy, yellow and maroon swatches into the collection however
