So yeah, they have a poll for the States, and this picture is listed as the results came up.

That doesn't matter, just learned about it in statistics.. its a certain type of response variable(can't remember the exact name). The people who feel inclined to answer will answer, it's really not a good representation of the entire U.S.... I wan't polled :/

It's not that is doesn't matter - it is a poll of almost 100 000 people. It just isn't a random representative of the population. People who care will answer the poll, people who don't won't bother. Judging from how many took the time to say they didn't care, the NHL has a bit of a problem when it comes back.

Little surprised to see Minnesota and Maine in red...but it's Football, Baseball, Basketball, Nascar, Golf, Boxing, Wrestling, and about another half dozen sports before Hockey is up there.

I'll continue to support and watch hockey, no matter what.

The pole is dumb. These asses dont know what it is like to lose their sport... What would happen if we took away baseball? Maybe they will understand what it is like to lose their entire winter, cuz there is nothing better to do while it is snowing than to watch hockey.

Although they already lost baseball before, I hope it happens again and everyone stops caring so these morons get a taste of their own medicne.

IMO, how can u base a poll of America on 100,000 people? Country is smaller than I thought heh...

The poll is not dumb, it's ESPN trying to gauge interest in the game. While you can argue that 100,000 is not enough of a sample size I would take it more seriously since:

#1 - The people voting were sports fans more likely than not, the fact of the matter is there is a rather significant portion of the population that doesn't care for sports in any form.

#2 - Baseball has been gone before, and even if it went again it would still do better than hockey because it has stronger cultural roots in the US, whereas
hockey can't even hope to come close to that since it is a marginal sport in most of the US at best.

And Last, no matter how much you dislike it, much of the winter has already past without hockey, life has and will continue to go on, people have other interests and the world will not end with the lack of any sport including hockey.

So these results do not surprise me and I think the percentages are fair, honestly people, nobody should be really surprised, the VAST majority of the US doesn't care if hockey ceases to exist period. I'm just surprised 27% voted the other way, I would have thought it closer to 15% maybe 10%.
