For the purpose of reassignment to the AHL.

The San Jose Sharks are waiving Evander Kane on Sunday, as first reported by the Mercury News' Curtis Pashelka.

If Kane goes unclaimed by Monday at 2 p.m. ET, the Sharks will assign him to their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, Pashelka adds.

The NHL suspended the forward for 21 games in mid-October after he violated the league's COVID-19 protocol.

Sharks assistant general manager Joe Will revealed Sunday he's expecting Kane to practice with the AHL squad on Tuesday.

"We just decided that since he's a contracted hockey player, it's the best thing at this time for him to continue to play hockey, and this is the best option for that right now," Will said.

The executive added that Kane is fully vaccinated.

The NHL reportedly looked into the 30-year-old's alleged use of a fake vaccination card in early October while investigating a separate matter.

Sharks place Evander Kane on unconditional waivers

The San Jose Sharks placed forward Evander Kane on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract "for breach of his NHL Standard Player Contract and for violation of AHL COVID-19 protocols," the team announced Saturday.

The Sharks have no further comment on the matter.

The 30-year-old cleared waivers in late November before reporting to the organization's AHL affiliate. Kane put up eight points in five games for the San Jose Barracuda.

Sharks’ Evander Kane clears waivers, NHLPA grievance expected

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane cleared waivers on Sunday with the NHLPA expected to file a grievance.

The Sharks placed Kane on unconditional waivers Saturday in order to terminate his contract. San Jose cited “breach of his NHL Standard Player Contract and for violation of the AHL COVID-19 protocols.”

Kane signed a seven-year, $49 million deal with San Jose in 2018.

The 30-year-old was suspended for the first 21 games of the season for using a fake vaccination card. San Jose place Kane on waivers in November and after clearing was re-assigned to the AHL San Jose Barracuda.

Kane registered two goals and six assists in five games until he tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 21.

Oilers, Evander Kane agree to contract for rest of season

The Edmonton Oilers and unrestricted free-agent forward Evander Kane agreed to a contract for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign, the team announced Thursday.

Kane's deal will contain a $750,000 salary, a $625,000 signing bonus, an approximate cap hit of $2.1 million, and a full no-movement clause, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.

The NHL suspended Kane 21 games in October for violating the NHL/NHLPA's COVID-19 protocol after he allegedly used a fake vaccine card.

I'm just glad the Caps didn't sign him after it was rumored they were interested in him. That is a huge toxic personality that they don't need while in the middle of a slump.

well i really dont follow on
how bad the oilers are doing
but if he does this

Kane registered two goals and six assists in five games until he tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 21.

then maybe it will
give the oilers a much needed spark..

and for only just over 2 million.
might just be money well spent

but it could go the other way also

:(
