new computer, awesome computer, don't want any dinks messing it up, i want to be protected on this one, there will be no media on this one (other one takes care of that), soooo....

what is the best product or group of products (no more than three).. to use for simple, effective, high efficiency protection

thank you !

My personal feeling is suck up the $60 a year and get Norton since it's never done me wrong outside of the fact that the update center pisses me off occasionally.

...but a few people I know stand by AVG, which is a free download.

I've used Kaspersky for the past 2 years, works absolutely great, never had any probs with it, and you can pick up the complete protection pack for around 50-60 bucks (CDN).

nod32 + comodo firewall
is one of the best combo's out there... nod32 costs money but comodo is free

I recently changed to eset smart security 4... it has its own personal firewall and won't eat up as much ram as seperate anti virus and firewall. Its also based on nod32.

I've also heard the NEWEST Norton is very good, the previous ones have been nothing but ram eaters, but I read they rebuilt the new one from scratch and stopped basing it on previous versions.

(Of course there are ways not to pay a single dollar for any of these....)

If you want the best free ones go with AVG, Avast!, and Comodo (firewall only)
