Olympic Luger Dies after Training Run Crash

This is a terrible tragedy, and I hope that I never see the video (which I have heard is very graphic, very disturbing). I've heard the description, and that is more than enough for me.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family, friends and fans.

Very sad and unfortunate accident. All the best to his friends and family. Luge is a truly scary sport, and when you start risking it for a few tenths of a second, the results can be devastating. Hopefully this is the only accident of this magnitude in the games.

I tired to get the link to work for me but it didn't. I know I don't want to watch it but I would like to see what happend

I saw it at work expecting just pics, but absolutely just crazy beyond words...I can't believe that the media has showed this! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and his teammates.

I saw the initial video when they broke the story, when it was aired as breaking news . They didnt know his condition when i saw the video, but i knew the outcome wasn't going to be good. A few hours later, when i saw it as the headline on TSN.ca , my heart dropped.

Very disturbing indeed..

People cant believe they showed it yet everyone watched , that is why they showed it. It is disturbing , no doubt , and very tragic , but i think worse things have been shown on TV than this. I honestly do not know how the Georgian team participated in the opening ceremony , it would have been a very tough experience for them. Would love to see an honorary Gold medal given to the Lugers family by the IOC.

it's sad! it's also sad that it took someone dieing for the olympic comitee to realize that the track is not safe. and i think about 20 other lugers have gotten hurt on that same turn. and another sad thing is, is that they announced he was on NATIONAL television before they even told his family that he had passed away. and about the honorary gold medal given to the lugers family. i agree with that.
it's just sad how far he gets in life and then bam it's gone. it just goes to show you how fast you can lose something.

A very tragic accident indeed and respects go out to this youngs mans family. However it appears to have been user error rather then track design or conditions that led to this tragic accident. The IFL and IOC have deemed the track safe and will continue the scheduled events there.
