Hey guys! There's a guy locally selling a Mike Richards young guns high gloss /10 for $200 CAD... Does this seem like a decent price? Please guys give me your opinions!
Thanks

I have nothing to compare it to really but if you want the card it is whatever you are willing to pay. There is one on eBay for like $350 BIN/OBO so looks like you are doing better than that at least.

I think that it's a bit high. Richards love has dropped like a weighted balloon. I would think that $100 is a bit more In the range. You also have to remember that several may be tucked away driving up the price for this one, so if it's a gotta have it then $200 is not totally unreasonable.

Yes! That's the one I'm after! Said he'd go down to 200$ CAD but not sure he will budge anymore from that price..

You need to decide if it is worth $200 to YOU, not us.

If you are trying to determine whether or not that is fair market value, it very likely isn't. On the open market,, it would not surprise me to see that card sell for anywhere between $20 and $80. Richards has pretty much hit rock bottom in the hobby world and the NHL in general. But given the difficulty to track down a HG RC from 11 years ago, all it would take is one set builder or player collector to decide that they will pay the $200 and you could never see it again.

I would say if you want it get it. Never know when you will see another one. If you are just getting it to check a card off a list and you don't really care if you ever have one then just move on and hope another one surfaces or this seller comes down more.

Yes it was more I was trying to see whether or not it was fair market..

I'd have a real hard time justifying paying $200 for a card of Richards, much like most other commenters here.

I look at the larger picture - how likely are you to continue your Mike Richards Collection, say, 4-5 years from now? I am having trouble getting rid of Selanne cards - couldn't imagine trying to get rid of Richards.

I'd save the 200 bucks. Spend 100 on box and with the other hundred have a really nice steak dinner with the little lady or lad.

No Mike Richards love anymore...can't even get rid of the lower end rookie cards for a buck.... maybe a $40 card at most anymore?? The problem with Richards is that the Flyers tried to make him what he wasn't- a first line center. IMO, he was a good second line type of guy (and a good two way player), but never got to play that role in Philly. By the time he was sent away, he had another year or two of decent hockey left since he, to put it mildly, didn't take care of his body properly. Basically ended up breaking down too early. So I guess my question is, how many past their prime non super stars are worth $200 Can anymore? But, if it is a set buster for you- I can understand wanting the card and overpaying a little.

Rob hit it on the head.

A YG HG from 11 years ago, of a player from the team you collect.

$200? Ya, a bit much. eBay is full of YG HGs that are overpriced and keep getting listed over and over and over again. Heck, even this year's YG HGs are overpriced, and not all of them are safely tucked away in PCs.

If it's something you really want, do it. If it's something that doesn't fit into your PC like other stuff, wait it out.

I would wait it out, see of the price can drop a little more, and if you feel it will be an extraordinary piece to your collection, I'd say go for it. While I agree Richards stock has dropped on the secondary market, if it's a PC Card you'd like to acquire (and within your budget limit), then that should not matter as much. You collect said player because you like to, not because of market popularity or within the hobby. If the price can't go down to more realistic levels, then sometimes you need to bite the bullet (within reason, of course) to land rare PC Cards like these. Sometimes you never know if/when you'll see another. Just my 2 cents on this tough situation. I think all collectors have been in the same or similar situations at one point or another. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

Find an Exclusives sale, and multiply it by 4. Call me crazy, but that has been a rule that has been generally close for me. That would be my max.

Have you asked the seller if they might trade for the Richards? maybe you have a card they want that you only have $100 into or something like that. Might be an option. I think $200 is high, but not crazy considering you likely wont find another one anytime soon.

Thanks guys for all your opinions! I actually just bought the Canadian fall expo /10 card for 40$ USD.. I do agree that the 200$ is a bit high... I was hoping between 100-150$ I'd get it but waiting for a reply from the seller!

There is a Phaneuf listed at 400 US on ebay. He's had the advantage of playing for Canadian teams keeping his stock a little higher than Richards I would think. I wouldn't touch it for more than $125US maybe. So I think your assessment is fair

I paid $160 canadian for a Bobby Ryan High Gloss about 4 months ago, passed on 4 others over the years that were all in the $300 range, if he isnt willing to go under $200 walk away and message him again in 3 months
