I'm kind of in a sticky situation. I sold a card on ebay October 3rd. It was mailed out to the US on Oct. 4th registered mail. As of October 7th it has been at JFK Airport. The buyer of the card is extremely impatient and wants me to do something about this. I contacted Canada Post and was told that the status means it is in customs. I have tried explaining this to them but the customer doesn't care and wants me to "Do something about it". It is tracked to cover me for paypal situations but if it never shows as delivered then where do I sit? As it is I took less for the card then I am into it for and I charged less than actual shipping costs to send it out. Any ideas of what I should do?

You cannot control the mail. You have proof that it is mailed. Nothing you should do from this point but keep open communications. If the other person cannot accept that then he has the ability to leave an appropriate feedback which you can have overturned with proof.

If you are concerned with keeping a customer happy,,,, throw him a bone...

But,, As for the "you sold it for less than you have in it" --- that is part of business. As for the part you shipped it for less than shipping costs --- that is also part of business (the part where people get fired...LOL,,, but it happens).

You are covered.

I know of another member that has had an item sitting at the ISC center for almost a few weeks and then it finally moved, tracking via registered mail the entire time.

For the first time ever, I'm over a month waiting on an item from Canada. Only a $50, it didn't come with tracking.

Advise him that because you are a Canadian citizen exporting the item, you cannot broker the item through US customs, which is what the hold up is. If he wants to speed it up, he can try and broker it himself, but considering how rude US customs and border agents are, it will likely just hold the item up even longer.

If he has a problem with that, tell him to vote Republican in the upcoming election, maybe they'll make changes to the customs system...LOL

I just had a package delivered today that sat in Customs in LA for 9 days. US mail has almost come to a stand still lately. This holiday season is going to be a nightmare for cross border transactions.

I know it's held up with customs, and it's part of doing business with the costs. What I'm wondering is if I should refund the shipping because of the delay just because of his impatience? I've pretty much figured that no matter what I do he's going to slam my dsr. Is it fair that I should refund shipping after only 3 weeks? I know that shipping cross border takes time and I'm used to it buying hockey from the US. On the other side of the coin, majority of baseball cards ship from the US so it's possible he's never had to deal with the customs headaches. We all know the anticipation associated with waiting on that whale so I see where he's coming from. I just don't know what to do.

It's not like the package has gone missing . The buyer needs to be patient . Nothing you do will change the current status . Your hands are tied and they need to understand that. If your willing to take the hit on your feedback fine . If not then you have to refund or do whatever you can that will get them off your back. I guess that's the evils of ebay.

Cheers Mike

i actually had a card delivered to me last Tuesday after saying it was in NYC for 4 days. 3 days after being delivered it was still saying in NYC. I saw this thread and checked and it says delivered now with last Tuesdays date. Something funny is going on with stuff crossing the border in NYC. Hope it works out for you
