Hey all,

Funny story for you. I went to my local 'Buck or Two' yesterday to pick up some more bubble mailers, and it just so happens that they put 5 or 6 new boxes of product out while I was shopping. Literally as soon as the boxes were on the rack, a greasy older guy with thick glasses walked up to the rack and started feeling the packs.

I went about my shopping like normal, and stood by the balloons and watched.

He took pack after pack, felt them (for what I'm not sure), and put what I imagine were 'bad' packs back in the boxes. He put his 'good packs in a pile to the side.

I knew that mall security was at the information booth right in front of the dollar store, so I simply walked up and took his stack of packs. He reached for me and caused a bit of a commotion, but when I pointed out the security guard in front of the store he let me go and I ended up getting the packs.

This is what was in them:

1999-2000 Upper Deck series 2: 1999-00 Upper Deck Game Pads CJGP Curtis Joseph
2003-2004 Upper Deck Ice: 2003-04 Upper Deck Ice Authentics IA-RD Rick DiPietro
2003-2004 Beehive: 2003-04 Beehive Jerseys JT37 Mario Lemieux
1999-2000 Upper Deck MVP: Silver Script Grant Fuhr (Woo Hoo!)

Just thought it was kind of funny that it backfired on him and I have a pile of new goodies to show for it.

Don't mean to rain on your parade... but all you did was do what the pack searcher intended to do... rip off anyone buying the packs in those boxes.

That is pretty funny. But like Jay said you did the same thing that other guy was about to do. I can't help laugh though.

I just feel sorry for the 8 year old kid who could have pulled one of those great cards. I am glad the pack searcher didn't get them, but in the future just tell him he is an *** hole and move on. Mike

But if I wouldn't have taken them, he would have anyways, and that is why I did what I did. I wouldn't have done it otherwise. I have an extreme hatred for pack searchers and this guy has ripped other collectors and I out of these cards for as long as we've been buying there. I always buy from that store and pull crap - now I know why.

Its better to try to teach him a lesson than let him get away scott free...

That could also be a bad thing too. An 8 year old kid pulls it and he's like, what's this? Then he just chucks it on the ground. Who knows. At least they went to good hands.

Yeah - the way I read the story is that it's not a hobby store - can't give the packs to the store owner and say "these got searched" and expect the person to even care. Given the options available, I think buying them was the best.

I agree. Either the sleezebag gets them, or a reputable collector gets them. I think I'd take the latter.
