i was having a talk with a buddy about player collections. i pick up rangers cards but i dont collect a certain player on the rangers. so i got to thinking about starting a player collection BUT it has to be of someone on a different team then the rangers. im probably going to go with bobby ryan. it doesnt seem like theres too many bobby ryan collectors out there. his cards wont break the bank, hes got plenty of cards to choose from and hes somewhat of a local boy being from next door in jersey. thoughts? im curious to know who you guys would go with?

since your an American, Ryan Kesler would be a good pick

but thats from "My team" so thats cheating

if i had to pick a player from a different team i would choose Jordan or Eric Staal. they have some sweet cards. or i would choose Shea Weber

i did think about eric staal. hes another guy that is fairly affordable and doesnt have too big of a following.

I already made that happen in my PC, Alex Ovechkin. If I had to pick another, I think I might go with Rick Nash or Pavel Datsyuk.

One player that doesn't play for the Sabres that I collected was Stamkos, primarily because I met him last summer and it was a great experience.

My first collection (aside from sets way back in the day) was of Cam Ward. I'm an Oiler fan, so you would think I wouldn't want his cards considering he won the cup for the Hurricanes. But, I refuse to ever collect (seriously) an Oiler, as if they leave (and they all seem to), it'll make me even more angry. Just pick any player you like.

good player to collect but his cards are insanely priced. i have to factor that into the player. guys like ryan, E. staal etc are moderately priced and theres not too many personal collectors that make bidding wars for their cards.

BRUINSFAN08-Nash wouldve been a good one but hes on the rangers now.

There are a tonne of players I collect who don't play for my team. Gretz is the first one to mind.

I've been mildly collecting Rick Nash for years. He's a decent player who's now on a good team, and up until now his stuff has been very affordable. I have over 50 autos of him thus far, and I'm a Leafs fan, lol!!

I am a Leafs fan (yeah, I know) and I pick up Marian Gaborik cards so I'm already collecting someone who doesn't play for my team, and he's a rival New York Ranger no less. I started collecting him when he played for the Wild so I'd follow him to pretty well any team in the league, except maybe the Canadiens.

I'm on the same boat as you.

I picked Brandon Yip back when I started my player collection.

I'm a huge Canucks fan and always will be, but I never collected anyone from there. When you collect your own city and team, for me personally, it just limits you. If you explore and try various teams or players you will find yourself more engaged into what happens outside your own sport's team.

Bobby Ryan is a great choice. Like me I picked Yip because of a hometown connection. Your are still attached to your own city in a way, but have the option trying something different.

...

I recently made only one exception and that was Eddie Lack. A solid young goalie with huge upside... most importantly, he's very outgoing in the community. A huge twitterer and come on... his name has so many puns! lol

Currently doing it with Markstrom and now I guess you can say Nash. But Nash shouldn't count. Also Petr Straka but in the same boat as Nash. Straka was drafted by Columbus but was not offered a contract so no longer property of Columbus.

For you, I would choose someone young. A player that is about to make the NHL or will have rookie cards in 12/13. That way you can collect his cards from the start and not play catch up/be down on his 1/1's.

If I had to pick a new player pc today, I'd go with a retired player. Somebody that captivated me when I watched hockey as a kid.

I'd lean towards Gilbert Perreault. He's got some really nice cards out there (vintage and new) and has a sa-weet signature.

Billy Smith might be another. He was unlike anybody else in the game back in '82. He was awesome.

Im a rangers fan but for my PC i picked................Bobby Ryan......im from owen sound where he played his junior hockey and by far one of the nicest kids to come through this town, always treated me and my oldest son great. Actually stayed up here and played in our local slo pitch league one summer. Anyways I am sure I could help ya out if you chose to go after him......hit the link in my sig and check out what i have so far

My main PC's guys are Datsyuk and Duchene, both not from my favorite team (Canadiens) but from my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams lol!

Duchene is now affordable, and Datsyuk it really depends but he's my favorite player in the whole league.

I'd go with Bobby Ryan. Nice cards out there and not a lot of collectors of him. I've seen some amazing cards go for 2 to 6$.

Just pick a player you really like

All my players have been playing for Panthers in some point of their careers (Vanbiesbrouck, Luongo, Salak, Horton, Weiss and Panthers in general), but I have been tempted to start Pekka Rinne collection. Such a great goalie, playing in smaller market team and is from Finland to boot.
