This year I've decided to start picking up 08-09 Rookie Derick Brassard. My question to you is. Is he going to be a excellent Rookie who is heavily bought or very high end. Not sure but if he's going to be expenisve I'll still buy what I can. Please if you have any help that would be great or suggestions on who I should chase would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

I go to another message board(non card related) and some Jackets fans feel that other Blue Jackets fans over rate him. I think the hockey news had predictions of him getting 40 points this season. The ppl who feel he is over rated think HE SHOULD go to the minors for 1 year and develop rather then rushing him(like Brule). I think Voracek and Flitov have a better shot at making the team ahead of him. I don't think he'll be expensive because most collectors would be focussing on Voracek/Flitov.

I doubt Brassard will pan out. He played 17 games last year and didn't impress me from what I saw of him. I don't think he's fit for the NHL yet, and when he does, I can't imagine him being more than a 50-60 point 2nd line center AT BEST.

The guy in Columbus that has a good shot at being a #1 rookie is Voracek. The guy is an amazing hockey player and has the skills to be successful in the NHL.

As a Latendresse fan, I can tell you Brassard is certainly talented. he was Guillaume's center in drummondville, and a shop owner that I know out there who goes to all the games, says he thinks Brassard is going to be a really solid NHLer once he develops. I think you need to keep in mind that he is still young, and not every talented player becomes a superstar at 19 or 20. I actually think he will be one of those guys who becomes a first liner, or solid second liner, when he's 23 or 24,which means you should get his cards for a bit less than you would if he was dominant this year.

Very well said.
I agree 100%

Brassard is a pretty gifted offensive player with just okay speed, but a great sense of the game. Apparently, the Blue Jackets want him to bulk up a bit, as he does play a little bit soft, and I believe he got hurt pretty bad in the minors (last year or the year before?).

I would say he is a nice choice to collect. His stuff will be very attainable, and his potential upside is good. I agree with the statement that he could develop into a decent second or marginal first liner in a few years. Not everyone is a first liner right away.

I'd personally put him in the 50-60 point range, as far as potential. If he plays with someone like Nash down the road, he might do even better.

He have been seriously hurt two years ago. Only played 14 games in the season. This have really slow his development.

So, we are talking about a guy, here, who only have two complete junior season under his belt before turning pro. Normal that he didn't look to good last year, even though, he managed to play 17 games in the NHL. Not bad.

I think the kid have a really strong upside, maybe better than Latendresse. But he will never be a star in this league.

So, stocking his cards might be quite easy (I compare him in BV term as a James Sheppard or David Perron), but don't expect too much profit in the short, mid, long term.

My two cents.

If you don't know anything about him, who on earth would you choose to collect his cards?
I know about him I just needed some input if I'm heading in the right direction or if I should chase someone else. Just needed some feedback because I wasn't sure if he is the right investment because im realtively new to this hobby.

If you are doing it for investment purposes, you may be barking up the wrong tree with him. If you are doing it because he is one of your favourite players, then you can't go wrong.
