Is the "unpopular" opinion actually popular?

Drawing inspiration from this, figured a poll would settle some of these

Which do you enjoy more?
1) "The hunt" for missing cards of a complete set/collection/etc
2) Actually having the "Complete Set/completed project"?

100% no brainer I'll take the cards thank you.... save me the pain/stress/time of the search XD

Never have been about "the process", Gimme the end result plz

Both but it's more in the hunt for me. I've finished some sets/projects that were relatively easy to put together but they don't compare anywhere near to the impossible tasks I've been able to accomplish with all the help from people I've met along the way.

I chose the completed set because that will allow me to focus more on other hunts. Basically, the hunt will never end, but (hopefully) I will complete some sets/projects along the way.

Considering I have been working on the 1999-00 Upper Deck Exclusives set for over 2 decades, missing only 2 cards, I'm solidly in the "Complete set" camp

That's a funny question..... because to the point I think you're trying to make: What do we do with those sets after the hunt is complete?

I don't do much for set building anymore.... but when I used to do S1/S2: There was always the new set to chase each year.... and the hunt never really stopped for the back-issued cards I was missing (until I got them all). The hunt was a lot of fun, but so was the sense of accomplishment when I completed everything (1990-91 through 2015-16.... then sold it all off).

I did a "master" set of 2011-12 BTP (I put master in quotes because I did not chase the very large 10th Anniversary GU cards, and I only did the base version of memorabilia cards that had parallels). That one took me years to finish, was a ton of fun to work on (lots of trades in the early going, lots of "I found a copy!" purchases to complete things). Still have that set, and happy I do.

The chase is a ton of fun, but I do enjoy the accomplishment too - so I'm going with both.

The value of a completed "set" lies in the hunt required to complete it. A "set" can be a manufacturer's based, parallel, or master and a player or team set and a "hord'... define it, hunt for it.

I don't think I have completed a set of anything since I was a teen (a LONG time ago). If I guessed, 1990 Score might be the last time I tried to complete a set.

I have a list of cards I want in my mind and they're impossible to source. In the meantime, I buy cards to flip while I hunt the ones I actually want. I've been a little more successful in finding a few cards I wanted in the last few years, but it's ALWAYS the hunt that keeps me going.

I had to think on this for a bit, but its definitely the hunt. When I start a new set, its probably cheaper and definitely easier just to buy the set outright but thats no fun. i usually buy lots of 50-100 cards ( commons) and then hunt down the last remaining few over time. I have been working on some sets for over 10 years. I have been two cards away on one set for over 3 years now, they are out there but not in both the condition and price range I am looking for as of yet, so I continue the hunt. I just did a quick count of my completed sets on my bookshelf, 47, and I cant tell you the last time I looked at them, but I have the satisfaction of knowing they are there and the memories of putting them together

Both as in "THEN and NOW" for me.

THEN - In the past, I completed quite a few UD Ultimate Collection sets but NOW, I have a preference for low numbered cards and GROUP A cards. Some are available early upon release and become harder to get as they find their way into the hands of collectors. Also some of those sets have become available @ EXPO.

NOW - The searches are for fillers for restocking for EXPO and on the collection side of things, I have acquired 3 cards, one a double for the PC in over one year. One set project is one card away from completion and what I have seen are either overpriced cards that I have.

LASTLY, happy collecting to fit your needs with a budget in mind!

Good Question. I would definitely say for me it has evolved into the Hunt. Maybe I'm maturing or just getting cheaper , but I'm not in so much of a rush to complete a set or project. I am more willing to pass on cards if they aren't in the right price range, and I like to have a lower end project or set to keep me occupied

I voted both but it probably leans more into "the hunt". I definitely enjoy going after cards for my player PCs. Years ago I used to try and build sets and was rarely successful, however, the ones I did complete there was always great satisfaction. In the event that I successfully complete my Klesla PC, I'm really not sure how that will feel.
