TITLE SHOULD READ POSSIBLE SCAMMER AS IM NOT 100%...IM 98%

I was working out a deal with a guy on marketplace for a Gretzky OPC Rc PSA 1 and things seemed a bit fishy. He would not do etransfer and said he bank account is blocked right now and could only do PayPal. I have not used PayPal in ages and when I did a while back I got scammed. And then on his profile it says he joined in 2023 but he had photos time stamped back to 2017. Anyway he proposed we do half now and half when it arrives. To me this is a last ditch effort to get some money out of the situation. So I asked him to send me a scan of his driver's license and he can blurry out everything except his name, address, and photo. This is not devulging anything I would not see from his profile or the package I receive. He then threw some insults my way then blocked me. Sorry I no longer have his name but I remember he was selling a gretzky psa 1, a fishing lures, and I think the other item was some sort of lego.

Name is/was Robert Wilson

We need to be aware of these types on Marketplace because it is still a bit of a crapshoot if you’re purchasing higher end items. I’ve only bought small amounts so I haven’t really had a problem.. You were lucky to get out when you did.
Cheers
Dan,

Just to clarify, you wanted to do e-transfer, but are worried about getting scammed?

Unless he requested PayPal F and F, how would you have gotten scammed thru PayPal?

If I sell through PayPal I do not get the money cleared until the Tracking Number proves it has been delivered. I have never had problems with PayPal (although almost everytime I used PayPal was through eBay so eBay covers that portion of holding the money until delivery confirmation) And then PayPal gives you like 60 days or something to report a problem and get your money back.

Of course, scams are ever-evolving.

If the seller is concerned about getting hit with the fees, I let the seller know that I will pay extra to cover the seller fees to send payment via paypal goods and services. If that does not work for them, then I would walk away from the deal.

If if it a business transaction there is no need to do F&F. There is no protection with F&F. It is an immediate Red Flag if they require F&F.
