So I mailed a couple bubble mailers to the US yesterday and today. One was 130 g and one was 70g. The card values were over $200 and $100 so I mailed with a tracking number. And to my surprise it was $16.63 and to further that surprise the next option was expresspost which was $24+. So my question is did I just have a stupid mail person or is that the going rate?

I went yesterday and it seems registered mail is no longer available to the U.S.

You can send expresspost, tracking no signature for 16$ and change.

The only way to get a signature, price raise to 30$ !

Canada Post raised most of their prices on Jan. 1st. I think a basic stamp is just over a dollar. almost as bad as what the US has to pay to send tuff here

I had the same problem and am friends with the woman that runs our local post office. She called Canada Post and was informed that Registered Mail to the US is suspended until further notice. I called Canada Post and they told me the same thing. The rate you got is the cheapest currently available if you want a tracking number on anything going south of the border!

That's why I've been sending all my Canada stuff in rip proof white envelopes. It cost me like $1.50-$2. Or $8 and chance for a bubble mailer. You do the math on that one. Obviously anything $40+ would go bubble mailer but I'm going to send in the envelope whenever possible.

On the flip side, I always mail overseas for $4.34 (or $4.36, I can't remember).

The other day I went in, and she insisted it was only $2.68. Fearing she was screwing up, I left and went to a different post office, and the lady rang it up the same way.

What's the deal there?

We sent a package out on Monday to Finland and it was only $1.87. The weight of it was 21 grams. Usually it is $4.36 to ship to Europe and I asked as well if it was right and the person showed me the scale they use to determine postage. Weird that it was different this time around.

I sent a card via Tracked Package last week, it was normally in the $12 range, this one was just under $16 so looks like it's the same across the board.

I remember a few years back that the Express Post envelopes were $5 regional, $8 National and $10 to the US. I think the glory days of selling on eBay, etc, are numbered. The hobby can't sustain those costs.

The costs are largely attributable to a ponderous, inefficient organization overloaded with middlemen and leeches.

I'll leave it to you to decide whether I'm talking about the post office or eBay.

Don't let Paypal off the hook Steve.
