Upper Deck’s Statement Regarding Its Purchase of Fleer-SkyBox International and Assets of Fleer Collectibles

The Upper Deck Company has entered into agreement to purchase the intellectual property of Fleer-Skybox International and the assets of Fleer Collectibles.

Fleer has a tremendous amount of heritage and tradition within the collectibles category. The company was founded in 1849 and produced its first trading card product in 1923. In 1959, Fleer, entered baseball with the popular Ted Williams set followed by Baseball and Football Greats from 1960-63.

The Fleer trademarks and brand names will add tremendous heritage to the Upper Deck line-up of trading cards. Upper Deck has always provided top quality products to collectors, and the addition of Fleer’s rich brand history will allow us to continue to offer the best to consumers.

Upper Deck has also purchased the assets of Fleer Collectibles. Over the course of the next few months, the company will be exploring the die-cast business and determining the best way to enter the category.

Does this mean the products will have both names on them? For instance, Upper Deck Fleer Inscribed. Or will they just use the product name less the Fleer name? Should be interesting.
