I figured there are enough player/team collectors that there should be a thread for others to read just to get an idea of how others think. I think it would be cool to see how far to an extent others would go to help other known player/team collectors. Some spend good money just to help others with their collection.
Question: What do you do when you see a card that you know someone else would be interested in?
What I always do is shoot a pm or email to the person with a link, most of the time they already know about it but a couple people have won cards from links i have sent to them. I have picked up several of my favorite cards from links provided by other player collectors. Even some that i have never spoke to.
Question: Would you ever bid on a card that has a bid from a player collector you know about?
Never, I have no interest in other players. Sure some subsets are cool looking and i wouldnt mind picking them up as bait at a deal. But if I see a player collector bidding on it, I pass at all costs even if it could turn out to be a steal.
Question: Would you ever bid on a card that has a bid from a player collector of the same player you currently collect?
That depends, it makes no sense for you and another player collector to drive up the price of a card that isnt a very low print run. What I normally do is email them, if they seem like they want it more i will pass and let him get it, in the long run it just about always pays off. There is no reason to go into all out bidding wars on a /100, the seller only wins in this situation.
Question: When you open a pack/box/case what do you do with your breaks?
I keep a list of player collectors along with their email address that i have dealt with. There is no question about this, I will set the cards aside and let them know about it. Sometimes this could turn around to hurt you because you hold onto a card longer and sometimes they may pass on the card or worst case some will say they want a card your saving for them and a week later say they found a nicer one or something. Now the card is 1-2 weeks old and sells for 50% less. But this rarely happens, bu**** something to know if you plan on doing this.
Question: If someone asks for something from you and their trade page doesnt have anything your interested would you actually pick up players you know someone you know collects?
Yes I do this all the time. I actually traded some stuff tonight to 3 different people to help out other members sets. There is nothing better then receiving an email from someone saying they traded for a card because they knew you needed it.
Please keep it civil people, I believe this thread could come in handy down the road for new members.
