Ok,so this release has hit the eBay wave in full force.Just an observation from me.
When was the last time a 50 card base set of anything sold for over $50 plus the
shipping.Now I believe that the price is fair because you cannot even get close
to a set out of a box or two.So why not. But the same is true for the NHL men
hockey set. But for me I have never seen anyone getting $50 plus for a base set of
1-200. I see them at the local card shows for $10 or less. So do you think that
these values are sustainable or is it just the "I need it first" thinking of a lot of people.
Similar to why some people that sell on eBay the first day usually gets a lot more
than anyone else with the exact same card(s) but a week or too later.Wht do you think.

We haven't seen anything like this before in hockey - a brand new league of Professional Athletes, none of which have a card in their pro team gear. By all traditional accounts, the base set is loaded with what we would traditionally call Rookie Cards.

I'd imagine there will be some drop in the value with a little bit of separation from release day... there are possibly a lot of people making a foray into the hockey card game that haven't bought before. That said... I don't think $50 for the base set is a bad deal. If I didn't have my own boxes to open, I'd be looking to buy now.

Cory,I agree with everything you said.I to believe $50 is more than fair.
With the boxes so cheap it is like 50% of the cost of a sealed box. So
those buying this base set is way ahead of buying boxes since I can
only guess that it will take at least 4 boxes to make that 50 card base set.

I opened 2 boxes and between the 2 boxes got a complete base set. In theory you should be able to complete the 50 card base set in 1 box because you get 60 base cards per box but that wasn't the case in either of my 2 boxes.
I bought at preorder for 100$ per box but online the boxes are now listed on websites at 230-250$ it seems. I think this product is more scarce/in demand than expected.
Overall I think there are a lot of fans who may not be fully aware of typical card values and have been unable to get their hands on product so they are picking up what they can

I opened one box today, got a complete base set.

No impressive young guns or the like.

It took me awhile to track down a box (seems to be sold out everywhere) but cracked it and got a complete base set with a few extras. Breakdown was:

4 Young Guns
2 Exclusives (/100)
3 UD Portraits
2 UD Portraits Gold (/299)
1 Young Guns Outburst

As for base I got a complete set plus 11 extra.

Nice product that looks like it may have higher demand than what was printed based off being a new set. I'll most likely rip more and complete the Young Guns if I can find anymore.

I was not sure what to do with my boxes. But me and my two sons will open it
tonight.I hope I do not regret opening since I could get almost 3 times what I
paid for the boxes on eBay.

I feel that the PWHL is being undersold by their partner league and their affiliated interests. Same thing that's happening to the WNBA. They sleep on this interest at their peril.

100% of my base cards are damaged. Clearly UD is treating this similar to a ProSet-Quality-Control kind of release. There are extensive reports from collectors of this same issue. Terrible effort. And I pre ordered three more. I’m screwed.

I know the set has attracted quite a few female collectors into the hobby that didn't collect before and the idea of a limited production run on a basic set like this IS quite perilous. These should be widely available and at a better price point (maybe with better QC), but I don't run Upper Deck to say that it would be a good idea. They must know what they're doing, right?

The card aspect is only one end of it. And don't forget: they're likely gonna flog this on ePack.

Glenn, how many boxes did you open/ I did 4 last night and doing 3 more this week.
But I found the boxes where all designed different.Me and my two sons opened
the boxes.We each took one and split the 4th.My box has the blue dazzlers and silver
portraits.It did have the star burst young gun.While my sons boxes were loaded
with deluxe and other parallels.like exclusives.And I was expecting 16 young guns from
the four boxes and that did not happen either.The condition of my cards seemed
all right.But I could care less about centering so if that is an issue for some of you than
maybe that was a problem that I would not have noticed since I could care less about.
I am not grading modern cards So with my breaks the way they were I have decided to
build a semi master set,base(1-50),Yong guns (51-70),Blue Dazzlers(1-20),
silver Portraits (1-20).So I should have a want list posted by the end of the week. TTYS

I’ve done one box so far. One full base set with no damaged cards. Dazzlers and portraits… and one silver outburst Young Gun of Marie Philip Poulin (yes!). On the downside, my three regular young guns were all damaged - they have foil bleed from the front of other cards on the back. Onto box two…

I do find it funny that the odds on the packs and box state that all inserts combine to fall one per pack. No attempt at splitting it down at all.

Edit for second box… ran into some base damage this time. About a quarter of the cards, all in the same place (bottoms left edge). Insert collation had four base young guns, including Spooner, and a silver outburst. Everything else was portraits of numbered. No dazzlers in the second box.

If I can find another cheap box, I’d buy it again.

Happy for you both. My breaks are steady….no Spooner, no Nurse, no Poulin, etc etc. I bought 4 boxes but only opened 2 so far. I’m torn between sitting on the unopened boxes, or ripping them with the unrealistic hope of actually catching some luck…lol

The base in my second box was acceptable condition, so I have a base set at least. I’m hoping to get the YG’s, Dazzlers and maybe the silvers…

Glenn,I faced the same choice.I went with bust them all.They only cost $100 a box and where can
you rip a box for $100 and have the results this is offering.Mind you if money is the main reason
then sell the boxes. Right now you can likely get 3X what they cost you.

But I was wondering what your plans are with your regular inserts. I have decided,I guess like you.
That I will do the base set up to 70 plus the blue dazzerlers and the silver portraits sets. Right now
I do not have any doubles of those to offer as trade. But I will be doing more boxes this week. So I
thought I would ask just in case we may be able to help each other out. Take care and we will talk soon, Winston.

My son just called to tell me the Poulin 1/1 was pulled and is on on eBay for $50,000.00 .
To bad there was not two at that price.
