Quality of 09 Rookies Autos

I think the newer players need to take a page from the older players and take a bit more pride in their signature.... Maurice Richard was sick as could be at the end but he still made the effort to give his fans something to remember.

The autos are representative of the quality of the rookies this year! No one would complain if Crosby or Ovechkin had an auto like Drew Doughty because he's Crosby or Ovechkin. Few people actually care what the auto looks like when they pull it if it's a superstar. Only when the players are not as good or do not hold as much value do people then complain.

I hate both of thier autos, Ovechkin's moreso.

Then again, I hate any signature where they don't put any effort into it.

I understand the ideas of thier autos degrading some for how many cards they've had to sign, Price is a great example, but what did Ovechkin's look like before? I sign my name hundreds of times a day (Not over-estimating, I have OCD) and it hasn't changed really at all.

Also, to try and get this thread back on track, I like Steve Mason's auto. Very crisp.

My sig dosen't even look like the sig i had when i started my current job, i sign my name about 250-300 times in a 2 week period.
It looks like a dogs paw print on week old mud now, hockey players most likely have a day or 2 to sign a couple of hundred to a thousand cards in their tightly controlled schedules.
So, give them a break.

And that's the larger problem - you'll still see a lot of the old-timers have great signatures - they care about what they put out...

Times are also changing with how EVERYONE signs their names these days though. Geez, i look at my parents signatures and they are beauties, can read every letter. Then we get to guys my age (25-35), decent signatures, but not as legible as my/our elders. Then i look at my nieces and Nephews signatures (16-21) and wow, cant make out barely two letters.

What? Crosby has one of the nicer more intricate autos. They're all very consistent. I don't think I've seen one sloppy Sid auto. Also love the way he fits the 87 inside the loop of the C. That shows me he takes time into every sig. It's very similar to Gretzky's auto.

Ovechkin's auto is bad though. It's just 2 loops.

I don't know, just not a fan of it. When I look at it I see an S, and maybe a C. The 87 is nice, but if I didn't know his name I'd never be able to make it out.

It's just a matter of preference, I like Jack Johnson's, Gordie Howe's, and Carey price's (old) auto.

When I look at Crosby's signature I see this:

S-Y-C-Y-87

The first and last letters of each name with the number tucked in neatly. I have always liked his signature.

Sid has a quality auto. I am not as obsessed with how great a players auto may be but how consistent. Some guys can have very nice autos but over the spread of all products the autos are all over the place to flat out messy. Even if a guy has a plain signature, as long as they are consistent you can at least tell they gave the same effort with each one. I have no issue with any of the first four examples except maybe Neal's.

there is nothing wrong with any of the sigs the OP posted ... i like their sigs cuz THEY ARE THEIR SIGS !!!! why would you want everyone signing their name in proper penmanship ... there would be zero difference between any of them ... i love hossa's auto, cam wards is wicked ... so is the kaspar posted ... let them sign THEIR name the way THEY want ... its theirs afterall ...
