Hi all,

I recently pulled a really nice Tomas Hertl 4-colour patch auto from black diamond. The swatch on the card is layered white on orange on black on teal (jersey). I certainly could be mistaken, but to the best of my knowledge that colour sequence doesn’t exist on the Sharks patches. Regardless of whether that’s the case with my Hertl card, it did get me thinking about whether all card swatches are representative of the way they were on the original jersey. This might be a naive question, but is it commonplace for manufacturers to reconfigure jersey and patch pieces to make them more desirable?

Regarding your first question that swatch is likely from an older jersey (the sharks home jersey with the black shoulder yoke) that hasn’t been used for a few years now. Regarding your second I have no idea but interested in hearing some responses from those that would know.

I don't think much attention really gets paid. Half the time patches are upside down or of a different team than the player's uniform on the card.

You can see that sequence of White/Orange/Black/Teal jersey on the home Thornton jersey, however the year Hertl played his first game the Sharks stopped using the orange trim and went strictly white/black/teal, so it could be from a photoshoot jersey from his draft year.
