I know things have gotten both more expensive and more complicated in recent times, but what would you say is fair price for shipping a card from Canada to the US??

I've been seeing listing recently from sellers asking for $25.00 Cdn for "Canada Post USA Letter Post". This is for an ungraded / not slabbed card just for further info. This is for a low numbered, but not especially high value, card. The same seller has a McDavid auto with a $30.00 Cdn. shipping quote for "UPS Standard United States".

I'm just curious what the thoughts are on these prices? Are they in the ballpark?

It costs me under $20 to send as a Tracked Packet. And it’s around $30 for Express Post. Both have $100 coverage.

Regular mail (Small Packet Air USA) from me to the States costs around $8.83-ish CDN and with my business discount, the Tracked Packet Air USA option (6-9 business days) costs me just under $13.00CDN.

It's $13 just for the service, plus postage, plus fuel surcharge, plus tax. Ends up closer to $17ish.

The $25 rate you're being charged sounds like Expedited Parcel to the USA. The least expensive trackable solution from Canada Post for which insurance is available.

Ok this is from Canada Post web site.If you are getting it cheaper than you are not likely mailing from a Canada Post office. I am sure a lot of online sites are offering shipping for less. These are prices for if you simply walked in the front door of a Canada Post post office and laid this on their counter and said you want o ship it. And even these price will change some depending on where you live and where you are mailing to. I used Nova Scotia to Arizona. All of the first prices in the two possibilities do not include tracking or insurance.

When I read your post I can only assume if someone is charging those amounts for shipping a card to the USA that it must include tracking and likely insurance.Again with the two cheaper rates there is no possibility for tracking or insurance. And every time you add an option price goes up.In most cases when you take a service with tracking it includes $100 in insurance. But as you can see if you want more insurance it sure adds up very quickly. If you want a signature, there is another fee. So lets say you bought a $200 card from someone on Nova Scotia. And he wanted to protect himself and your goods. It would cost him in and around $14.57 plus extra insurance plus a signature. So it is now $14.57 +$2.25(insurance) +$2.55 for signature(only available on express post). So that is now $19.37. So the $25.00 does not sound unreasonable to me.

Most people today really are not looking to send a $200 without tracking and insurance.Yes there are cheaper ways but most sellers are not willing to risk their card if they have no recourse. As we all know eBay ,pay pal could care less if you are an honest seller and that you sent the card and the mail service must have misplaced the item. It is very similar to why many US sellers use the global shipping program. The seller has not risk. If you do not want to pay to protect their business then a lot of them could care less. I am sure if Canada had a global shipping equivalent on eBay that a lot of Canadian sellers would use it. Their would be no headaches at all for the seller.

PS: take note these prices are for likely one card. maybe two.It needs to weight under 100 grams. I believe you could likely also get one graded card if it was PSA. Their slabs are a lot less bulky and weigh a whole lot less than say Beckett.

I hope this helps a bit with your decision about buying from people charging those amounts for postage. If they want that much. Ask them, does it include tracking, is it fully insured, will I need to sign for it.If he answers yes to all that then you can see why he wants so much for postage. Good luck.
