Just to start off, I felt announcing this in the Hobby talk was appropriate considering it has to do with losing a fellow hobby-ist.

That being said I just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that I have officially decided that I am quitting the hobby and will be progresively selling ALL of my cards off in the near future. When I say all that includes my Lecavalier cards, St. Louis Cards, Perry, Ovechkin and all else that I have accumulated over the many years. This is a sad day, as the hobby WAS once fun. Collecting has become more of a chore than fun. No longer do I excitedly anticipate new releases I dread them. Acknowledging this and the fact that I have a responsibility to myself to quit this mentally and financially draining hobby I arrived to my decision.

I want everyone to know that I do love you all! I dare to say that I still plan on at least venturing the boards and yapping it up. I still plan on destroying my liver at the expo.. just not my wallet. I can confidently say that I am now even able check out the show and tell threads and not be in the least bit tempted.

Slowly and surely my collection will be depleated. If anyone has any suggestions on selling please feel free to offer advice.. My biggest thing for now is to sell bulk lots I would think just to help out collectors and myself even more stress from the "hobby."

Carlos

PS- It was the moment I realized I was not that excited to pick up cards anymore that I made this decision.

Well I know we talked long and hard about this bro over the past few weeks.

So I am not gonna sit here and recap, or should I?:p

Seriously, I think we all feel stress in this hobby at some point in one form or another.

Some guys don't have the coin to keep up anymore. Some guys don't have the time to dedicate to it. Some guys become so involved they cannot sleep until that next card shows up.

And then there is some of us who do this for a HOBBY and could care less about the money. We do it for fun.

When the fun stops, the hobby becomes more of a thing we dread then a thing we look forward to, like you mentioned already.

I know personally I have had to refocus my collecting goals countless times in the past year alone to keep things fresh and fun for myself.:o

I can honestly say I became completely overwhelmed in the past 2 years with the crazy porliferation within the hockey market on top of the other 3 sports I was collecting/chasing with countless sub-PC's within.

I am at a point where I am likely going to have to yet again revamp my collecting habits after this hockey season.

I am still having fun, but I admit, there are days I get frustrated like anyone else. But as long as I can find some fun, I will keep it going. Who else is gonna buy all these crappy Kings cards anyway?

Sorry to see you leave the hobby but I guess with those great things like phones and airplanes we'll keep the Faithful Departed in full effect.

So yes, sad for you and the hobby, but no problemo on the friendship dude.:)

I guess you can dedicate more time to our fan club now.;)

Oh, and work on that liver thing too.

Hasta to the cards, but in the end I know your gonna be much happier, and I need happier friends. I guess you could have the girlfriend kiss it all better. Or take more chapstick pictures.;)

Los, you're a credit to the hobby, you're, well, PRETTY, PRETTY, PRETTY GOOD!:D

(thumbs up)

Cheers brotha.

Los,
I enjoyed having the opportunity and pleasure to deal with you in our previous trades. I'm sure we will still see plenty of you around these parts even though you have made the decision to leave the hobby. Best wishes in your future endeavors.

Cheers,
Darin

well what more can i say that i haven't already? i think each pm i've sent you in the last little while pretty much said just hang back and take a break but in the end, you've got to do what you've got to do, which is to look out for yourself.

when and if you ever decide to ever come back into the hobby, i know that most of us will be here still.

Carlos, it was a pleasure meeting you last fall in Toronto. You're certainly one of the fun guys in the hobby and I hope you find what better turns your crank.

Look forward to reading your posts in the future...

Michael.

Dude,
You are (were I guess) definitely a credit to the Hobby. You were always an easy going dude who did it for fun. I guess the hobby sucked the life out of you and when that happens its no longer a hobby but a choir.

Carlos man you were always a cool guy to chat with. Even though we both collected Vinny we never once butted heads... which is really remarkable when you think of it, dont you think?

We always tried to help each other out and worked to improve each others collections. I guess really we were like 1 collection... lol remember when we would joke about that? Combining our collections. Ha! Good times.

Anyways dude we'll keep on chatting like always... no worries about the hobby man, its always around the corner... and now you can focus on whatever else.

Take it easy C

P.S. You know I can never, ever, ever, under any circumstance call you "Los" eh? ;)

I don't really know you or your situation, but I personally lost interest in collecting a little while ago. I got back into it when I started collecting a new player... sometimes you need a change, but not necessarily a total change of hobby. Let me tell you, adding to your collection is a lot more fun when you can pick up a nice card from eBay for under $10 again.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck and have fun.

Hey Carlos,
I really havent had a chance to get to know ya. but Hi here and there in the chatroom. .but I'm close to the same thing myself.. just can't keep up with the joneses(upper deck nemesises money etc) with the shannys.. I'm trying my damnest to change some directions of my collecting habits... with different sets.. to keep it FUN, but is becoming more of a chore then hobby fun nowadays SIGH!
But good luck with what ever you end up doing, but as I read what nice things folks here have said about you.. you have made some close friends! so just come back shoot the shyt, stir up alil' trouble, leave, come back.. say neener neener...and do it all over again!! hehe, but most of all keep coming back.!

Take Care,
~Billie~

Carlos, I am happy to hear you will still be around the board. Good luck on the sales and if you want any ideas, shoot me a PM. I'm happy to help any way I can. Mike

Hello Carlos, we do not know each other and this will be my first post.. I have to say that I completely relate/understand to what you feel/think ( I left the Hobby for 10 years before returning 9 months ago).. I will use Marriage as an analogy for the Hobby as it is a relationship.. Having said that, like any relationship it has its rewards/struggles. So you are entering into the Divorce stage, would you perhaps consider the separation stage first, which is take a break from the Hobby for a little while, give yourself some distance to reflect and perhaps re-focus and re-enter instead of cutting it completely and moving on.. I guess what I want to say is, take some time bro and see where you end up, if at the end of that time you feel the same, cut and move on. I would hate to see you leave and sell off your collection and a year from now find your love again.. Perhaps you have already gone through this stage!! Regardless your reputation precedes you and you will be missed by many in the Hobby. M

Another bites the dust!

I don't know you Carlos but it always sucks to see one of the well known collectors leave.

didn't Shakespeare say "'tis better to have collected, and stopped, than never to have collected at all" ?

I think it was something like that.

Seriously, sorry to hear you've decided to move on. It is certainly a loss to the hobby.

Carlos! I hope this doesn't mean we can't be Facebook friends stil!!! :)

I hear you dude, this season has been relentless with Black Diamond, SPGU, SPx, Trilogy...and the high end products haven't even begun to flow! Sending in redemptions, waiting on them, wondering if they're going to be made, damaged product in the packs, a plethora of one-colour patches, low average pack value. Collecting these days is definitely not for the weak of heart.

I don't know you Carlos but I have heard nothing but great things. I hope the change brings you more enjoyment and relief. Hopefully you find a way to sneak back in without it becoming stressful. It's always good to have a hobby to keep you out of real trouble. ;)

Best wishes.
