A sad day for the hockey world. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gretzky family on the passing of a true hockey dad and ambassador of the game. R.I.P. Walter Gretzky at the age of 82.

Just heard about this sad news. Thoughts and prayers going out to the Gretzky family. To me Walter Gretzky is the dictionary definition of the ultimate hockey dad.

He was such a friendly man, I still remember him walking around Ivor Wynee signing autographs and taking pictures for him at the Canadian open.

I saw this come across late last night. My condolences go out to the Gretzky family. I never heard anyone say anything bad about the man, and in today's world, that shows that not only was he a great Dad, but just a good, positive human being.

Walter was truly a great ambassador for the game of hockey. One of the most recognized figures as well, he seemed to have time to talk or sign an auto for everyone he met. Prayers go out to his family.
Dan.

I can honestly say, I've not met many people who were as nice as Walter. I was lucky enough to attend a Gretzky fantasy camp, and of course Walter was there for the week. Had many a good conversation with him, in fact my wife was so enamored she wanted to adopt him and bring him home! One night he was getting a bunch of signed 8x10s from Wayne so he could stop by the arenas back home. He was going to hand them out to kids playing house league. We ran into him again a few years later at Wayne's restaurant in T.O. and had a chat. He didn't remember us, but that was a byproduct of his previous health issues. Didn't stop him from greeting us with a smile though. The world has lost not only a true "hockey dad", but a wonderful person all around. RIP Walter, and our condolences to the Gretzky family.

Yes and amazing man! I was lucky enough to meet him on a golf course in Brantford about 20 years ago. Was one of the craziest rounds I've ever played, but also a round that will live with me forever! In a couple of words? "Speed Golf" LMAO I still smile about it.

Rest in Peace Mr. Gretzky.

Great for the sports. It's a sad day today.

With the hyper media coverage out there in today's world, I hope the Gretzky family can find some private time to themselves to grieve, properly.
