Cant say I am surprised. Injuries slowed him down quite a bit, and the team proved they were just fine without him.

While he might be one of the smartest defensive players in the game, there are far cheaper options. Besides, we already have callahan to fill the role performed by Drury to a T.

As for Wolski, he looked awesome when he first came over, but contributed little as the season wound down. I had nothing wrong with him, but his salary is too high for what he brings.

Lastly, as for the speculation around Richards.... I could take it or leave it. I would like to see a good centerman with Gabby. But on the other hand I think we need to go younger and build up.

Not surprised by either move. Rangers had to do it.

I think Drury could be a very valuable addition to some playoff team's bottom 6 forwards this summer. When healthy, he's decent offensively but he is outstanding at faceoffs and penalty killing and he's a great leader so he would be a great addition to any playoff teams 3rd line. Should probably come fairly cheap too. Of course, this is assuming he's healthy.

Wolski's meh. Good hands, has some untapped offensive potential there but lazy, little drive and incredibly inconsistent. Doesn't put forth the extra effort.

Sounds like players the Wild will pick up:banned:

I had him pegged since Drury got injured last year.

Gotta love how Cally, Staal, and Dubs have come along. Already cant wait for next year. (dont forget Girardi either, the unsung hero of the team)

Maybe I should consider collecting those dudes?

I'm certain Richards is who NY is gunning for - sadly the Rags have some bad luck when it comes to bringing in players with 7 mil a year salaries, which is what Richards is going to be looking for.

Mind you Richards is better offensively than Drury or Gomez, but something about NYC and high dollar salaries that don't mix.

i'd like to see the Kings kick the tires on Drury as he could be a good fit as the #3 center to replace Handzus.
i'd like to see the Kings go after Richards but i don't think there is any way DL will pay what Sather will.

Avalanche should have never dealt Drury, I would love him to come back home! Sherman is the worst GM in the league and I know he wouldnt sign him :(

Ugh! And double Ugh! :badmood:

Coming from a Devils fan it is sort of funny lol but to be honest Richards at 7 per is WAY better than the contracts Drury, Gomez and Redden got. He is obviously way superior then all of them but it seems like almost every big contract that the Rangers dish out seems to end in failure. If they do indeed end up signing him I think it will be money that is well spent this time around.

But isn't he 31? Way to much for the Rangers to shell out for him.

We all know he'll never finish the contract and then you have that issue of the salary counting with a player over 35, right?

no, i think the over 35 thing only comes into effect if you sign the guy when he's 35.

Yeah he is but in order to land a high class free agent you pretty much have to overpay with length of the contract. You probably still get 4 quality years out of him. And ya the over 35 rule only applies if he signs the contract at that age or older. Exactly why the devils couldnt get rid of Brian Rolston :|

Hate to see Drury go, but that contract is a killer. Wolski, while very good at times too inconsistent over the long haul. Now I know why he's been on so many teams. He's got lots of talent, but he's wasting it.

No way do I want the Rangers to pay Richards 7+ mil. Is he even 100% from his concussion?

I like the way Slats has been going LATELY with his moves. The Rangers are finally going with youth and they're fun to watch.
