Collangelo won executive of the year as Raptors GM in his first year I believe and won it another team when he was in Phoenix. Clearly he knows what he's doing and I've heard him talk on the radio and on tv on several occasions and he is a very rational and intelligent person.
Any GM will make bad trades and make bad picks and the only bad thing I have to say about Collangelo is his attraction to Europeans in the draft. Not really a bad thing, but I don't know why he's so attracted to them. Bargnani is what he is and he was developing finally last year until he had all those injury problems and in all honesty I don't think that was a bad pick b/c who else from that draft is making a major impact? Aldrige, ***, Rondo, who else is there?
Actually, Collangelo is probably aware that he made a mistake picking Bargnani and that's why he had his eye on *** for such a long time and got Lowry this year who was also in the same draft.
The bottom line is if Collangelo was such an awful GM, he would have gotten the boot already, but I think he is going to be extended and finally has this team going in the right direction. *** looks like an absolute beast and is showing leadership skills as well and he looks to be what Vince could have been. Here's crossing my fingers!
