Greetings everyone,
For those of you that know Flamesbabe – surely she made ppl aware she had and was still constructing a hockey card database prior to her hiatus. She requested I take over and re-design certain aspects of the project. So with well over 21,000 listings under her belt and millions I will be adding I've recently found myself a little stuck as to what I should do and could use some feedback.

From the Beta until the V1.2 version, cards were showcased like so:

So I'm wondering if perhaps putting cards that are horizontal, both front and back, should be showcased “upright”. What’s your thoughts on it?

Also, when adding cards to the showcase she would add the team into the description making it “searchable”. Not only does this add hours of extra work but would removing this be a big loss? Don’t people normally search by player?
Any feedback would be awesome, thanks!

Personally, I can't stand when scans are shown vertically of horizontally designed cards. I also think having a "team" search function is very useful.

I will throw out a different opinion. I would vote for consistent across all cards. While I was setting up my site with both front and back pictures I came across several cards where the front and back orientation did not match. It was something that I never really noticed until I started that project.

Ditto on both counts. I would alter this slightly.

I would say it should be oriented in whichever way the back text reads. This would mean that some cards (such as ones used in Series 1) would have the front picture scanned from the wrong angle, but the back text / card numbering would be the same way throughout the database.

Thats the direction I was thinking on taking. Thanks for the input guys!!

What will this web site offer that isn't already offered by Beckett.com and Zistle.com?

From my short experience on Beckett I couldn't give you enough issues I've had using that site alone (I'm sure I'm not the only). We have many ideas and different features no one else has offered yet or even thought of...that I've yet to see, we just didn't put them all into play. Our first Beta run for a few months surprisingly brought in about 200+ members, I think website stability is a plus which Beckett seems to have issues with. But primarily it's focused on hockey cards as a "museum" from 1910 to the present. More so it's a personal project/goal, and don't rely on outside sites for our images. To have 200,000 images scanned front/back and showcased by 2 people alone (and 4 scanners later) is to me a pretty big feat. I think I'm more focused on that than anything other than looking at it from a competing standpoint. :)

Lower option to showing those for sure.

Adding team (and more importantly teams) of the card is the only reason I would ever use the database. Beckett lists for players are good enough for me, but their team associations of card were created with Stetson-Harrison method and I don't like that.
