Hello All!

After 6 years away from the hobby, I am coming back and trying to catch up to the new ways of doing things/figuring out how I want to approach this.

I previously had a 700+ rating on Ebay, and over 3000 cards posted on COM-C. Safe to say I was well immersed, but I can already see some significant changes.

Wondering if I could gather some opinions on the following:

1) For those super-collectors out there, I am trying to find the most efficient way to track my Mario Lemieux collection so that I do not get duplicates. Mobile access is important to me. Previously I only had a Excel file and would then print it out when going to a trade show. Beckett seems to be the front runner right now - open to suggestions!

2) Shipping costs....jeez. I know Covid has changed shipping times, but wondering about cost. I am located out of the Toronto area. Previously, on Ebay I would ship a bubble mailer within Canada for 3.00, US 4.50, International 6.00. No tracking unless item was above a certain value. Card within penny sleeve, top loader, decoy cards taped to either side, and then slid into bubble mailer. Each additional card coming at .50 on the same package.
What is the going rate now? Any changes to process? I am sure I will get a wide variety of answers on this one.

3) I have around 10 unclaimed redemptions from both Panini and Upper Deck. Dated between 2014-2017. Clearly expired. I recall UD/Panini doing old redemption trade ins at Shows - is this still a thing? Or are these as good as garbage?

Thank you all for your help in advance!

Mods - if this is in the wrong thread, my apologies :)

I prefer using the inventory over at sportscardforum for my personal collections as a way to track what I have/need.

I don't sell a lot, but those shipping rates seem about right. I believe an oversize letter stamp is worth 1.94 within Canada. Not sure what it costs to send to the US.

Redemptions, I'm no help with.......

Hey (I want to say Walt but might be thinking of a different Penguins collector).

I still use the Beckett database to generate my want list in Excel, then I have it on Google Drive so that I can access it or scan of my cards wherever I am.

Shipping in Canada is still under $3 for a single card or small weight of multiple cards. Shipping to the USA is higher now if you follow the proper shipping policy cards in top loaders should be sent as small packet which is about $7-$8.

Panini still excepts expired redemptions for points I believe if they do not have them in stock.

UD, you can still mail them for the expired redemption raffle. I think the info is on the UD site.

Welcome back BTW!

Scott

When shipping to USA without tracking, if you want to save, put 3,19$ of stamps on your bubble-mailer (under 100g) and drop it in a big Canada Posts red box. If you go inside the office, the lady will ask what is inside your package, and she will probably charge the full "small packet" price, which is much more expensive.

For the expired redemptions, UD is doing a raffle, you have to send the redemptions to a specific mail address, and you might get something in a draw.

Thank you all who messaged above - redemption situation sorted.

Still looking for further feedback on the personal collection tracking and shipping information when selling on ebay. Appreciate what you all have shared so far.

Hey,
I was wondering where you had made off to, been a long time since we have talked. Being a Lemieux super collector as well, don't bother with Beckett, they don't have any where near the correct listings for Mario. I do my best to help keep the SCF database up to date, and needless to say there are still many that need added. I also have my own website and server that I can update and access from anywhere, but not everyone is up to doing that so SCF is the best place.

I have started to list out non-Lemieux pieces on eBay and honestly I let it calculate the shipping based upon weight and size. I know that things can be cheaper but a PWE just doesn't work for me. The cross border situation is difficult to say the least, last one I sent pretty sure the cost was $7.50 for a single in a padded envelope. So yeah shipping sucks.

As far as your collection goes, shoot me a PM and we can talk. Right now I am sitting on about 11,000 extra Lemieux cards, yeah I know I have been hoarding. I am also up to 3,4441 unique cards, still not even 1/3 of what he has out there. So maybe we can work out a deal or two and boost both of our collections.

BTW -- Don't know if you have seen or not but Mario's RC's have gone through the roof and still climbing. I have been tracking the sales and PSA7 Topps is pushing $250 and PSA 8 is hitting the $350 mark. Just a couple of months ago when things started to go up you could get a PSA 9 for $350. So if you have any your investment has done well lately.

Thanks
Thad

I have all my PC's of sportscardforum.......Gives me stats for what I have allows me to make a complete want list to take to shows and check other members inventories to see if they have what I need....plus so much more

I'll backup SCF's Inventory Manager as well. I don't know how you guys do it for bigger player collections, but it really is a good resource and it's fairly complete. Time consuming, but easy to use.

Welcome back bud!

I can help you with the shipping cost question. To ship anything with tracking is 17.79. The weight can be up to 0.5 pounds which is about 10 cards in regular sized top loaders. If you don't want to use tracking, it is 9 something for a parcel 0.5 pounds or less and 2 something if you are going to send a package with letter mail. I also suggest you get your bubble mailers at dollar stores b/c they are a little more than a dollar there and you can send out three packages.

Thank you all!
Some great tips from an awesome community.

Looks like I will lean SCF for my personal collection after such resounding response.

Shipping...still seems like so many options and loopholes. I think I am going to bring a bubble mailer like I used to use to the post office and just ask them what I'm looking at. I remember they used to slide it through a slot on a plastic board and if it fit, shipping was only a $3ish stamp.

The Canada Post site also has the option to check the cost of your packages as long as you know the weight of what you're sending. Pretty useful stuff!!

Yeah, if you go in to the post office, they always overcharge.

You can ship 1 thin card with a toploader (in a tiny cutup bubble mailer) for a $1.30 US stamp. Or 2-10 thin cards (maybe a couple more) with 2 toploaders for $1.94.

I went to the PO like two weeks ago and it cost 17.74 to ship my package with tracking to the USA, but when I went last week it was 17.79. I found that odd, but 5 cents isn't much to me so I didn't care.. And ya last time I shipped with letter mail it was a little bit more than $2 per package I sent.
