Just wondering how the immediate rise of the US$ has affected Canadian collectors. This of course would affect the price of wax but help as Canadian sellers would see a nearly 25% rise in their cards if sold the Ebay.

As someone who buys a lot of singles on ebay it has put a limit on what I will buy. I've pretty much limited myself to rare PC stuff now instead of anything that caught my eye. It would also figure that as soon as it happened a few of my "big fish" (weren't quite whales yet) surfaced.

it isnt just e-bay, it is here too..today i had a deal worked out for a bunch of cards...told the person the paypal price(30% of BV) for the 8 rookie cards he needed shipped basically free, but he said because of the exchange rate, he couldnt do it.....

I was buying my Sweet Shot tins from a wholesaler at $59+shipping, as of yesterday his price went up to $74+shipping. I was paying $73 taxes and expedited shipping included, now it would be closer to $90. Kind of sucks because when the dollar was good and boxes were at a fair price I couldn't afford wax, now that I can the slumping dollar is driving up the prices :/

Yea, thats the killer, not only will I not buy any high end singles right now, but wax has increased in price as well.

Also ebay sales seem to be quite low on some cards that typically do well.

It makes us re-evaluate our pre-orders. The price of OPC jumped $10 a box now.

I pre-ordered my usual cases of Upper Deck which if the same is true, will cost me an additional $120 a case. I am worried about selling all the product i ordered with the inflated pricing.

I have only bought 1 or 2 things on the bay in the last 3 weeks. I don`t sell too much so I`m not benifitting from it. However the Japanese Yen has gone up 30 cents to the Canadian dollar in the past 2 weeks alone so my life savings(in yen) just got lot bigger.

Canadians are at a disadvantage when buying, my dollar is only worth .80 cents compatre to a US bidder. Like mentioned before my max bid now has dropped slightly. I will sell more and buy less. Its nice to sell for a dollar and get $1.20 back.

It has also really changed the comic market. Canadian shops are now selling by the CAD price again, for a long time most have been selling by the US cover price.

Meh. Things cost. Factor accordingly. If you as a Canadian collector could manage it in 2000-2001 when the exchange was 1.6, then this is a cakewalk.

I mentioned that this morning (actually 1.48%) in a conversation at work. I loved selling stuff then, it was awesome getting the extra .48 cents on the dollar.

Those were the fun days where I'd look at a price and go "ok multiply by 1.5 and cry" :|

I think I've actually bought 5 things in the last two months, way down for me. It looks to be staying that way for the near future. If I do buy it's something off of ebay.ca where the price is already shown in Canadian so that I have a better idea of what I"m spending. It's also forcing me to pay right away so that the dollar doesn't drop further.

I've limited myself to uber rare Naslund cards and Edler cards. Thank god Edler isn't being mass produced in every product.

All this does is make it worth while to go to local shows. When the old stock at shows filters through and the prices increase, back to ebay, rince, repeat.

It's starting to slow down my eBay purchases, especially in the last couple of weeks, and I'm keeping an eye on how much the box prices are going to be. If a box of UD1 is over 80 bucks I'm going to have to re-consider how much I'll buy and whether I'll do the Black Diamond set again this year. The only set for sure right now is the Habs Centennial but beyond that it could be a much slower season than last year was for me.

Great for selling - when others are actually buying. My recent slew of ebay activity saw all but 1 item cross the border.

As for my buying, still not as bad as 2002 (I remember paying an extra 55 cents on the dollar thanks to Paypals exchange rate) but I just do some quick math in my head and lower my bids accordingly. I also don't go for the shiny stuff for the sake of having shiny's anymore - strictly PC items now.

For now Wax buying is completely out unless I'm getting one heck of a deal. I'll scoop my young guns on Ebay in March when people are blowing them out.
