Went to the movies all by my lonesome this past Friday afternoon and saw Iron Man. I gotta say, I have no idea how close to canon it was, but I liked it quite a bit. I may start picking up some Iron Man comics now!

I live 5 hours from the nearest theatre so I will have to wait or download it. I hear that it was fantasic, comic fans are saying that it is the best (all around) comic movie made yet. I am looking forward to seeing it, however that may be a while.

Yes...definitely see it. Surpassed every expectation. Great flick. Not sure if it was better than Batman Begins, but pretty darn good.

Ya, it was excellent. Robert Downey Jr is awesome, Paltrow looked hot, it had some great comedic scenes that weren't cheesy, and the effects (and costume) were outstanding. The first half of the movie was great.

Chris- Did you wait until after the credits to see that little "sneak peak"? That alone made the movie worthwhile.

Actually...I thought that post-credits scene kind of detracted from the movie. It was great without it.

Way to ruin it for those that haven't seen it yet ;) (I'll edit it out)

I just thought the movie was great enough already. Didn't really need that part. I'd rather not see them turn this into a nightmare like Batman and Robin. There's still plenty of stuff they can play off of Iron Man alone.

Did you catch the name of the Terrorist Group? The 10 Rings...aka...Mandarin.

Well Marvel has announced plans for 5 additional movies including an Iron Man sequel, Captain America, Thor, Ant Man and Avengers movie so its not that big of a surprise.

It's a nice teaser for us fanboys

Would love an Iron Man sequel. I have no idea how they'd pull of Captain America. The costume doesn't translate well into real life....

And America doesn't really have the biggest fan base right now.

I pray they don't do a Thor movie....egads. The comic stunk...why make a movie?

Ant Man....why not do Under Dog...oh wait...they did.

John Favreau made all the difference for Iron Man. Had he directed in Daredevil instead of co-starred in it, he might've been able to save that movie.

At this rate, we'll have a Dazzler movie soon....paging Lindsay Lohan...

Captain America actually has a really strong fanbase right now primarily because of Ed Brubakers run and the subsequent death of Steve Rogers. It's been strong for about 3 years now... and easily one of Marvels hottest monthly books.

Thor sucks period.

And Lindsay as the Dazzler would be cool ;)

There are some great Thor storylines out there......I suggest everyone buy and read the brand new Thor one-shot. Its one of the best Thor reads ever, its great.

Dazzler hmmmm, better make that a porn, basically the only way it will make any money haha. Captain America would do well, he is well known even outside the comic circle, these movies need to attrack more then just the comic fans. The current run with the Red Skrull storyline is really good, I am interested to see how it plays out.

Talk about a teaser/easter egg. In Iron Man, there is the scene where Stark is getting fitted in his new shiny suit. On his workbench is Capt America's shield. It's kinda difficult to tell, but the President of Marvel Studios has confirmed it to be so:

Since Thor was mentioned, there is supposed to be an announcement this summer about it. Also, Iron Man 2 already has a release date (April 30, 2010), Thor in June of 2010, and Cap American and separate Avengers movies 2011.

Marvel has been doing this in all of their movies over the past few years. Spidey, FF have been full of hints on future movies and characters.

The current "rumor" is that they plan to make Captain America and Thor next year. The Lead guy from Journey Man is supposedly the front runner for Thor. Robert Downey JR. has a cameo in The Incredible Hulk as does Samuel L. Jackson. The plan is to make the Avengers with all the current actors playing the respective roles. I've also heard that Ant-Man is in the works as a Comedy, though.

Initially, before Iron Man, Jon Favreau wanted to make Captain America as a Comedy, but he chose instead to direct Iron Man. I thought the Cameo was neat, but he still didn't play the part as I had hoped. He's too much like the guy from XXX, and not like the character is portrayed in the Ultimate Universe. I believe the Title for the Captain America movie is: The First Avenger: Captain America, or something like that. A few other Marvel Comics to Movies in the works:
Nick Fury
Shang Chi
Runaways, could be awesome
Black Panther
Hawkeye
Dr. Strange
Cloak and Dagger

Saw the movie last night. Finally.

As regards SamuEL....if you hire him, you know exactly what you're getting. He's talented, but he's got exactly two characters he can play well: Too cool for school or the total loser (a la Long Kiss Goodnight or Black Snake Moan). It's like hiring Connery - he's a Scot and that's all there is to it. Thing is that he brings the look and attitude necessary for Fury to succeed as a character. If it rings the xXx bell....well, I think the copycatting is the other way 'round, don't you?

Thor as a comic has been decent as of the most recent relaunch. Thor's problem is the same problem they had with Transformers - when you're writing beings vastly different from ourselves (like sentient robots or Aesir...) it's near impossible not to imbue them with human traits that may be wholly inappropriate to them. There's an axiom of writing: You can't write a character smarter than yourself. The gist of that idea applies here.

I'm not prepared to write off a Thor movie on spec. It could be watchable. Ditto Cap - except the potential there is to become a total rah-rahfest. For now, I'm content to watch, wait, and wonder.
