The best collecting bargain on ice is gearing up for its return to the hockey arena for a whole new season.

2011-12 Score Hockey will ship to the masses in late October packing a massive 500-card base set that includes Season and Playoff Highlights subsets, 45 Hot Rookies and a limited Hot Rookies SPs rookie subset that will feature players who make their NHL debuts early in the 2011-12 NHL season.

The program also includes a three levels of parallels: Glossy (seeded one per pack), Gold Rush (seeded one per 36-pack box) and the super-scarce Black Ice (seeded one per case).

Each box of 2011-12 Score Hockey will deliver 36 Glossy parallels, 18 Hot Rookies, one Gold Rush parallel and at least 10 additional inserts including three Making An Entrance, three Net Cam, two Sudden Death, one First Goal, one Playoff Heroes and one NHL Shield Die-Cut.

The addition of new inserts such as First Goals, Score B, The Franchise Retro and Making An Entrance provide longtime Score enthusiasts with an exciting new chase, as should special scarce surprises such as Stanley Cup Champs, Santa Claus SPs and one super-secret insert that we don’t dare give away.

But perhaps the greatest aspects of 2011-12 Score are the wildly popular — and valuable — Recollection Collection (featuring hard-signed original Score Buybacks from the likes of Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, Patrick Roy, Ray Bourque and more), Hot Rookies Autographs and Score Signatures autograph programs.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates on 2011-12 Score Hockey. But until then, enjoy this exclusive first look at the product.

Is it just me, or are the parallels the exact same as in Victory? Gold 1 per box, and black 1 per case, same odds as in victory. Score was supposed to be victory, but not a complete replicate of the parallels.

If the glossy parallels are just like last year, they are a waste.

I totally agree with this, to me they were the same as regulars cards, no vlaue added in having them. Last years insert sets were nice though. At the price ppoint of score I'll buy a box or two, really can't go wrong.....unless Victory has autos this year.

Damn...in keeping with the retro theme, I was really hoping for them to bring back the 91-92 design. I was looking for some weird red or dark purple backgrounds with the Puck across the first letter of the first name :D

I might've missed this in the article...what year will the recollection collection autos be from? Are they still 90-91 or will they be scattered amongst all years now?

I'll reserve judgment on the parallels until I see if it's just a color shift or something else (I don't think they try to mimic foil effects in a mock-up). Right now, they appear to be a copy of Victory, as has been mentioned -- but everyone should keep in mind that Score used Gold/Black in the mid 90s, well before Victory even existed. They have more heritage with the idea than UD does, and this change adds a ton of clarity to Score's parallel program. That said, I sure hope they properly evoke the 90s sets by making the Gold and Black parallels full foil.

As for the glossy parallels? I don't mind them if they're marked -- and I know that multiple people brought that up to the Panini guys over the past year. Mark the card somewhere to indicate that it's a different version -- so you can tell from a scan which version you've got, rather than needing to hold it at an angle to a light source.

The Score B insert is an awesome re-creation of Pinnacle B! I'm also encouraged by the creativity in the insert set themes -- Making an Entrance and First Goals sound great.

Overall, I'm optimistic.

Loving the Pinnacle B recreation. And I agree, I wish they'd keep the retro theme goign (although I'm not too keen on anything after 92/93). They could also do the 2-3 different US/Canadian/BiLingual sets as well.

I wonder if there will be any retired players in the set.

I am debating about if i should do the Score set this year instead of the OPC.

Any opinions?

The Recollection Collection cards are still pulled from 90-91, but they will be different cards/players than were used last year.

Glossys will have a G-prefix on the card back and an extra glop of glossy goo on them this year to ensure that collectors can differentiate them from the base cards.

And yes, there will be some retired players across various sets.

In that case, the revision of the parallel program is a total success. Great news.

Al, please...PLEASE...PLEASE...if you're doing a Recollection Collection card of Lindros again (and why wouldn't you?), please do the Score Press Conference card and for the love of poor Richard McWilliam, pa-leeeeeeeeeeeeeeease number them to 88 or something instead of 5.

My ONLY criticism of last year's product was the severely low numbering of the Lindros Score Autos. Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to 11/12 Score.

Hand full of boxes or a case for me? Should probably jut start with a case and go from there. They look great to me.

I had great fun opening like 6 boxes at the expo last year, and at $23 a box at the time, how could I not. I was also thrilled too pull a Brandon Yip autograph rookie and a Jordan Eberle SSP rookie, I only got $17 for the Eberle on ebay, oh well, the redemptions (two Taylor hall donruss rated rookies /250) made up for the lack of hits in those 6 boxes, I opened about 4 more boxes after the expo, got the Nino N and Jeff Skinner short print rookies, can't wait too open this product again.
