New Member, Must Send First,
Thought i would share a few of my recent pickups in a rare mail call.
First up some Zenith that was on sale at the LCS. Only posting the larger hits.
Cohen was the Dear to Tear card and is #/10.
Also pulled (but since sold/traded) Mosaics triple Jerseys of the Bruins and Habs along with a Jeff Petry auto rc #/99
Since I am a Leafs goalie fan I heard rumblings this guy was coming to town and you can't beat a numbered on card auto rc.
Lastly I had the pleasure of meeting Glenn Healy during a road trip to Boston to see the Leafs this year. Here are two of my favourite Healy cards from my collection for those who are not familiar with him...he was Cujo's backup during the good years about a decade ago.
You may or may not be aware That Healy is from a Scottish family and is an avid bagpiper, in fact Healy piped for Paul McCartney in 2005 during the encore song at the ACC Mull of Kintyre, I was lucky enough to be there. Naturally after a pounding from the Bruins we discussed Beatles rather than hockey.
Fast forward to February in Ottawa when my Dad had a whisky appearance for Glenlivet Scotch in Ottawa. I went on the tour with him and found out on arrival that both the Islanders (Thursday night) and Leafs (Friday night) were staying at our hotel. Being from the old country my dad is not as familiar with NHL players as I am. We met most of the Islanders in passing at Friday Breakfast and did take some photos with John Tavares who is an excellent guy (and player). Friday night brought the Leafs players (saw them all but Kessel), management and broadcast team and beers with Joe Bowen, Jim Ralph, Claude Loiselle, Brian Burke and Isles Hofer Billy Smith who was the Sens guest legend that night.
After an incredible 5-0 Leafs victory (the Leafs took all three stars bows to a rousing ovation...in Ottawa none the less!) we headed back to the hotel for a quiet beer. Little did we know the CBC team were also in our hotel and we ended up having beers with Garry Galley, Bob Cole and the aforementioned Glenn Healy. Heals actually recognized me from Boston and we shared a scotch and a ton of laughs reminiscing about Scotland, the Bagpipes, Dads, the Leafs and Sam Gagner who had 8 pts that night. After about 30 mins Healy headed back to his crew for a night cap. About 15 mins later as he was leaving we joined him in an acapella rendition of Paul McCartney and Wings Mull of Kintyre. I quipped that the last time he played that song was with Paul McCartney! I had mentioned to Heals that I collect Leaf goalie autos and he was one of the few I did not have personalized on an 8x10-he told me to send a pic to CBC and he would sign and send it back....
I did so and also included a copy of my ticket from the McCartney show which Healy signed for me-very unique... but it gets better.
Anyone who knows Glenn Healy from TV know he is a bit of a character. He decided to add this special one of one auto to the package he sent me.
That's right, a signed copy of his sheet music to Mull of Kintyre!
I am still laughing and just got off the phone having a laugh with my dad and reliving that whole weekend...hence the long read.
Thanks for those who stuck around for the long read!
FYI I am now inspired to listen to Wings Over America while enjoying a 21 year old Glenlivet and watchin the Flyers/Pens in a couple of hours...TGIF
