Verified Trader,
Normally in the last days of September I'd be super excited for the upcoming hockey season, but with the Canucks not exactly being in 'plan the parade route' shape, it's a bit tough to get psyched up for the season. There's also a good chance it is the last year for the Sedin twins, a tad sad to see their twilight years toiling for some pretty mediocre teams.
But it's not all doom n gloom, at least there's some nice cardboard pickups to brighten my spirits - hope y'all enjoy my monthly highlights show.
Gonna start with one non-hockey card... I've enjoyed chasing something just a little bit different from the usual pictures of hockey men - Upper Deck Dinosaurs came out a little while back on ePack and I've been working on a quasi master set (don't really care for the artist autos... and some of the achievement cards are nearly impossible, but other than that I'm down to 3 cards to go). My most recent pickup is none other than T-Rex himself... now he's no Connor McDavid, but as close as it comes to a hot rookie in the Dino product
Ok, enough silliness, on to some more serious cards - only one non-Sedin pickup of note this month, a nice upgrade of my Rask patch for my Masterpieces collection. I believe I had a different piece of the same shoulder patch before, but couldn't pass up the chance to pickup the bear face part of the patch!
On to some Sedinery... from President's Choice, gotta thank my fellow HI members who alerted me to these, I snapped them up not too long after they showed up on Dr. Price's site.
Other than overpriced cards on ebay I'm not willing to splurge on, haven't seen a reasonably priced Final Vault Sedin in quite a while that I needed... oddly enough I also scooped up the silver Henrik from the same set the next day on comc but it's still in the mail.
Love the Supremes (not quite as much as someone else on this site)... they're one of the few Sedin cards that I upgrade when nicer pieces come available. This stick was a pretty decent upgrade on my old copy.
Picked this x/3 Ultimate Collection tag up for a very reasonable price on the 'bay!
Excited about this card... was a huge fan of the Russian Rocket back in the day, and to have a nice patch of his together with Henrik (who we just happened to name our one n only baby after) is a super sweet addition to the PC.
Also from Premier a couple Mega Patches, still need two more (the shoulder and commerative swatches).
MVP is a tough set for player collectors each year... I still need a darn gold script from two years ago, the only card > 10 copies I'm missing from prior years. Glad to at least have found one from this year, as well as knocking off both Super Scripts.
A pair of fun little ePack exclusives, the Colour Wheel rainbows from Platinum.
Along with MVP Gold Scripts, OPC blank backs are a real thorn too... still need two from previous years but thanks to our own Frank who pulled one and ebay for the other, I've knocked off this year's in a hurry.
Also courtesy of Frank, these unnanounced gold parallel minis seem really tough, still need the Hank to finish off all the Sedin OPC's for the year.
I tracked down one OPC Platinum Golden Treasure pretty quick on ebay, was cool to have at least the one complete rainbow, but when the twin showed up on ePack I was really excited to have a chance to put together the pair and now have both rainbows truly complete. Won't bore y'all with the entire rainbows, but here's the 1/1 beauties!
Last but not least, the reason for the title of the thread... a card that would be show-worthy on its own, but also represents a couple of huge milestones for me. This National Treasures tag 1/1 is the 3,333th mainstream Sedin card in my collection (I don't include oddball, show-stamped, printing plates, etc in my main collection stats). It also is my 170th Sedin 1/1 out of 339 which brings me past the halfway mark for the first time (though I'm sure UD will give me a few more to chase before all is said and done). With the twins nearing retirement, this is pretty much the last major milestone I think I'll hit in my collection...
